I know that for females we shouldn't eat less than 1200 calories per day. I also know that to lose 1lb of fat per week I should make a calorie deficit of 500 calories per day. Well what if making that deficit will put me below 1200 calories. For example my BMR is around 1350 calories per day, making a 500 calorie deficit would put me at 850 calories per day, 350 less than the required 1200. So how do I make this deficit? Do I just eat 1200 calories per day? Do I do cardio but not re-eat what I burnt off? Thanks for the help!

You are confusing your BMR with the amount of calories that you actually burn in a day.

A person's BMR is what the person burns at rest. They burn that if they sleep all day and never get out of bed... It is the amount of calories that get burnt just by pumping your blood around your body and breathing...

This is increased by all the activity that you do... Not just your exercise when you run around or go to a gym - but when you walk from your living room to the kitchen or walk around making dinner, when walk to the car or bus and go to work, when you go round the shops... All this increases your calories burnt so that it is noticeably more than your BMR.

The calorie deficit is the difference between this calorie burn and the calories eaten.

You can calculate the calorie burn (and calorie balance) using a computer tool. I use a free account from . You key in your profile information - including such things as gender, age, weight, lifestyle (e.g. sedentary) and also your exercise... You can also key in your food and see the deficit.
