Sport Eating Right on a low income!!!!

Sport Fitness
Hey guys...

My question is perhaps a perplexing one..but i will do my best...I am an apprentice and as such i live on a very limited income...i in the past 9 months or so have lost around 66 pounds (after leaving home) and I have done this by not eating right, or a better way of putting it not eating enough. I really dont know how to shop and buy healthy foods that are cheap, I go to the fruit and veg section of the supermarket and most things there i cant afford. I tend to live on Tuna and Noodles which can get boring after a while. Is there any suggestions as to how i can still eat healthy interesting foods on a very limited shopping budget of $40

Thanks

Chad.

P.S sorry for my punctuation.

$40 a week? A month?

I find my grocery bill got cheaper when I started eating right, because I spent more time in the produce dept. (fruits and veggies) and no time going down isles of Hamburger Helper and Mac n' Cheese.
I buy fruit, veggies, some whole grain pasta, brown long grain rice (not the instant crap), canned tuna, chicken breast, 95% lean ground beef, top round steaks (cheap, lean, not exactly 'tender' though).
cottage cheese is also cheap, as are eggs.

$40 a week (I am assuming) is pretty tough, but I actually did it when I had just got married back in 1983. Many weeks I had maybe only $25..I typically made a pot of beans which lasted for 2-3 days, oatmeal, chicken, apples, banannas, yams, potatoes, eggs, sometime hamburg and pasta.

Can you get an extra job? Seek assistance from a local church? Any government assistance?

I just went shopping and i spent a little over my budget but i think i bought some good stuff... Tuna, Potatoes,Eggs,Oranges,Bread,Lamb Chops,Rice,Pasta,Mince,Tomatoes etc etc so i got a fair bit for my $ i just bought the cheaper no name brand stuff and i was right.

sounds like you got some good stuff ... and newf is right, good old fashioned oatmeal is one of my top 10 best foods .. and real cheap too.

Do you have access to sunlight, soil, etc? Grow your own herbs and stuff, those can run a high bill at times. Even if you don't get everything you'd want, food wise, you'd still have the spices. For instance, if you don't have any meat around, just make some pasta with a pesto sauce (basil, parsley, pine nuts, etc) and have a protein shake.

If you're like anyone in the US, you'll know that meat is cheaper than veggies. These veggies sometimes can be found cheaper or can be haggled over at farmer's markets.
