Weight-Loss Eating on the Road

My exchange with KaraCooks regarding exercise when traveling made me wonder what strategies people who have to travel for work or other reasons use when eating.

I take plate, bowl, utensils, cutting knife, my small cutting board, etc., so I can buy some produce at a fruit and vegetable stand (or local farmer's market when the timing works) and chop it up back in my hotel room to make a salad. I take cans of tunafish and/or salmon to throw in for some protein. All this can fit into a pretty small bag--so it's not a big hassle.

Also, a lot of supermarkets and such have some good pre-made salads and meal selections--nice choice when I'm too tired from work by the end of the day to chop veggies in a hotel room (so I want convenience) but I don't want to say "screw it" and grab a burger and fries.

And I'll make use of restaurants--I find most are very accommodating with special requests, as long as I'm polite in asking and clear about what I'd like. So, replacing fries with a side salad, getting dressing on the side, leaving off ingredients I don't want, getting an extra serving of veggies--all those requests usually go very well.

So, anyway, what foods and strategies do you guys use when on the road?
