Sport Eating Fruit at Night?

Sport Fitness
Since fruit contains a high amount of sugar is it not a good idea to eat fruit at night especially when cutting?

For a snack, while watching tv around 8 o'clock, I like to eat some fruit to satisfy my hunger. usually I mix it up but the fruits I eat most often are. Honeydew, cantoulope, strawberries, blueberries, grapefruit, watermelon and pineapple. Is eating this fruit around 3-4 hours before bed a good idea?

If not a good idea what other foods should I be eating for a snack at this time?

The MOST important thing to self worry about or be concerned with in my opinion is whether the food item you are eating fits within the caloric limitations set for you. If eating at night fits the caloric equation, dont fret over it.

Within this in mind, the other issue to be concerned with are the ratios of nutrients you are getting throughout the day, and how well the fruit fits at the time you are eating it. Sometimes people fret too much over fruit when weight training and deficit dieting, ---->When it ISNT a concern.

Just some food for thought:

You have to remember this about deficit dieting: You are in fact creating a energy shortage, and due to this, the body literally eats its self for a fuel source (think canabolism). Just like you wouldnt like to bite your own arm, the body doesnt like to have itself for dinner, and will give off responses in various forms as a result. In other words cravings are going to occur and psychological battles are going to be run into constantly.

But there are ways to combat these complications.

Dont worry about the fruit. Natural fruit is fine even at night, but especially after a good workout.

I am the same, i usually snack on fruits at night when im watching tv or something. As long as you keep it inside your calorie limit there is no problem

There will be others who tell you the fruits you eat ( water melon, bananas, etc ) are bad because they are high GI foods, but i don't pay attention to that because i have never personally met someone who got fat off eating fruits. Another reason to try eating too many fruits at night is because of the sugar content, but its natural sugar and not processed sugar so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Last night especially, i had a couple apples, a couple bananas, baby carrots, and almost a half of a whole water melon

<-- fruit addict.

i would just like to say that a couple apples, a couple bananas, and half a watermelon can be around 1,000 calories. So for those reading this thread please don't think fruit is a "free" snack

Heheh just about. But it is Ramadan, and since i am starving my self during the day i gotta make it up at night.
half of my calories come out of fruits and veggies alone..end up eating around 1000 calories of fruits veggies, then another 800-900 protein, fats, carbs...

The last day is October 12th, but i'm used to it really so its pretty easy. I just eat enough the night before to give me enough energy to last throughout the day and i don't start feeling hunger pains till 4 PM. Then the hunger really kicks in by 6 PM.

If you want more details, I'm on Yahoo messenger.

ROCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

phate, you have to keep in mind when posting to questions there are a lot of people trying to loose / gain weight who read without posting, so someone might see what you posted (the first time, before you explained) and think its okay to eat 1,000 kcal of fruit at night. That's the only reason I even addressed it. :)

yeah i understand , i should have explained first. Thanks though.

Phate Im just curious as to why you eat the night before and then wait till 4pm to eat again? Isn't that bad news for your metabolism? I'm not familiar with cutting/bulking i just do my own thing. Eat a lot to gain muscle/ eat less around 2000 cal to lose weight and still keep the beating in the gym the same.

Well, he doesn't really have much choice, a fair guess is his religion is more important :)

Besides, those intermittent fasting guys are saying it's great. Theleip posted a link to an article about it a few days ago.

Yea, it s because its the month of ramadan and i cant eat from sun rise to sunset which is usually around 6:55

usually i snack on the amount on of fruits..just more spread out during the day...and suprisingly i've been eating enough at night to where i am maintaining and have gained a couple in the past couple weeks..which was my goal since im trying to bulk

Wow thats crazy that gives you like 12 hours within that 12 hours is like some sleep. Props on that thats pretty intense!!

Nautral sugar isnt nearly as bad for your body as processed sugar is. I honestly take 2 ounces of MonaVie before I go to bed every night and thats equal to 4 servings of fruit. I wouldnt worry about it.

Four pieces of fruit would be cheaper and higher in fibre so why not do that?

Cause fruit was never in my diet. Just never really bought any. The more I read the more I learned I need fruit in my diet. This way I get more than my recommended amount per day and it tastes good. This is a lot easier to take than eating eight full pieces of fruit throughout the day. Plus it has a lot more antioxidants and glucosamine to help my joints. Pricey? Yes it is to a point, but I know my health is much more important than money. If you go to a store and try to find 1/2 the fruits in monavie and purchase them. (if you can find them) It would be a lot more expensive then the juice. I know not everyone believes in this juice but I do. I feel the difference everytime I work out and everytime I get up in the morning.
