Eating Clean

Hey everyone, I'm officially starting my new lifestyle today and I absolutely hate fad diets. Everyone knows as soon as you start eating regularly again, the weight will pile on. I've been reading up a lot on different programs, like Atkins, South Beach and now Eat Clean. I haven't found a lot on eating clean though, and this is the most appealing to me as I love my carbs. Short of buying the book Eat-Clean Diet, which at the moment, isn't really in my budget, I have been able to find a little bit about this lifestyle of eating including things such as: Eating foods in their most natural state, eating no processed foods if possible, eating lean meats, poultry and fish, lots of fresh veggies and fruits and only whole grains, no whites as they are all processed. The only thing I'm not sure about, is how many times a day to eat? I know things like fruits and nuts are good for snacks, but what about yogurt with some fruit? I know most healthy eating lifestyles eat about 5 times a day. If anyone has some more accurate information about this I would very much appreciate it. I also did read that on eating clean a very good way to jumpstart your day is by eating a serving of fresh fruit, preferably berries or a citrus fruit with a glass of water upon rising, because fruits are full of antioxidants and get your metabolism going with natural sugars for energy. I'm not sure if this is entirely true or not. Thanks in advance for everything!!

Actually the number of times you eat a day doesn't matter much for weight loss nor healthy diet really. I wouldn't only have one meal just cuz I know I'd feel flat by the end of the day!.. but that depends on the person =)

Fruit is always good for healthy eating obviously altho careful when dieting as they have sugar afterall and I don't think it does anything to your metabolism. Metabolism can't be increased much by taking any supplements.

o_O that's what I've read.. if I'm wrong, please tell me.

and good luck! =)

You don't need a book to follow to eat clean. I think eating clean is one of those things that you have to define for yourself, because there are so many different options and variations.

I personally work really hard to eat real foods, to avoid packaged and processed foods, to eat seasonally, and when I eat meat, to make sure I'm eating it responsibly. I'd rather eat less meat and pay a bit more to know that what I was eating was raised humanely, for example.

I don't think how many times a day you eat matters at all. What does matter is making sure you're not eating too many calories - because it's possible to overeat on healthy foods as well - and making sure you're getting enough protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs.

I don't think that you need to "jumpstart" with fruit, but I do find that if I eat my fruit and carbs during the day and limit them in the evening, I feel better overall. My body processes sugars and carbs better in the day than at night - but that is very much personal and some people metabolize carbs differently.

Really finding the right eating plan is something that most people work out via trial and error. It took me about a year to figure out what worked for me, not just for weight loss, but for feeling good.

It's sorta a process, not a plan. :) And it changes as you get older, as you change your exercise, as the weather changes, lots of things.
