Eating before workout?

What is recommended to eat before a workout (weights and cardio), and how long before the workout?

I have a protein shake after I weight lift so I don't think I want to have one before also because that would just be too much protein....

my goal is not to get big and bulky but just to tone

any suggestions are welcome

thank you

depends on what you eat...but do not eat too much (like filling up your stomach). Wait an hour or two after you eat before lifting weight or cardio so you don't puke all over the gym.

High intensity exercises, the ones with heavy weights tend to burn large amounts of calories, especially from carbs. You might want to have something with high amounts of carbs 1hr-1.5hrs before a workout such as a banana or any fruit. But again, even a bit of protein is good before a wrkout as long as there's ample time in between food and exercise.

Be sure to eat aa fruit after the workout too, those carbs aren't gonna replace themselves...as well as the protein.

If you want to get toned, low-intensity exercises are the best way to lose fat...low-intesity exercises burn less calories than high-intensity ones, but burn more fat. No fat = toned. :)

Hope this helped.

if you're leaning down/cutting/toning up, having a protein shake before and after workout is actually not a bad idea as you want to keep your protein intake high whilst lowering your overall daily calories.

In addition to that, what storyteller is true in that, it is normally better to go into the gym on an not full stomach (but still not starving so you have energy) so you don't puke all over the weights.

What is an example of a low-intensity workout verses a high-intensity workout? Does this refer to a cardio workout or a weight training workout?
Thanks!

This is straight from my notes:

- Lower Intensity exercise (walk 3.6 mph):
41% fat (96 kcal) & 59% CHO (144 kcal) = 240 kcal
-Higher Intensity exercise (run 6.5 mph):
24% fat (108 kcal) & 76% CHO (342 kcal) = 450 kcal

Of course it doesn't necessariliy have to be running, this is just an example.
