Sport Eating...before or after

Should a person eat before or after they workout? I've heard alot of different responses before but i was wondering what you guys think. I've heard people say to eat before if your goal is to do somethig like a race/ compatition, but if your looking to lose weight, gain muscle, etc. etc. then you should eat afterward.

Both is probably best. An hour to an hour and a half before, and about an hour after (with something protein+banana straight after).

Some people don't eat before a workout as there trying to lose weight and want to burn fat. Never tried that myself and not sure if it work's or if it just means you have less energy for your workout and so can't work as hard.
