Weight-Loss Eating before bed?

Weight-Loss

I usually enter all my daily foods into an online program that calculates all my calories and stuff for me in the evening right before bed. Some days I've been too busy to eat right (or eat at all) and I'm wondering if I get to the end of my day and see that I've only consumed 950 or 1000 calories instead of the 1200 to 1300 I should be to lose weight, should I eat something at that time to bring my total up? Or is it a bad idea to do that before bed?

I think once in a while it would be ok to leave the total at less than 1000, but I've noticed that I'm a bit on the low end quite often lately. I'm wondering if I have to worry about making up those calories, or are those days just an extra 'bonus' for me because I would lose a bit more weight due to not eating enough? I want to eat healthy and not do damage to my body or something by not eating enough.

Thanks!

I have the same issue some days. I'm assuming it's better not to eat but I'm curious to hear from someone more knowledgeable as well

As long as calories in is less than calories out, you can pretty much eat whenever you want. The "don't eat after X:00" rule is good for people who habitually snack late at night on calorie dense junk food like cookies, pies, ice cream, cake, fried foods, etc. For those people, not eating at night helps limit calories, it has nothing to do with the time they're eating. I'm a big guy so I still need a ton of calories, even to lose weight. I don't get as hungry eating less calorie dense food all the time, so I frequently find a healthy way to get a few hundred extra calories in me in the evening. In fact, I ate a footlong subway sub, 1000 calories, for dinner last night around 9, and I was in bed by 10. Still woke up weighing less than I did the previous morning.

:iagree:

Also, I think it is important to eat when you are hungry, not just for the sake of eating. If you notice for a few days running, or several times a week, that you are always low on your intake, you should maybe consider eating a bit more in the morning/during the day to make up for that. That being said, being under 1000 calories/day is too low...so hopefully it doesn't happen too often :)

Well, that day, that was my dinner. It was a late dinner because I left directly from work to my weekly golf league, and we didn't get done until 8:30. I don't like walking around and trying to golf on a full stomach, so I usually save my dinner for afterwards.

Some days, I end up 200-300 calories less than where I wanted to be, so I go have some almonds, or some toast and peanut butter, or some chips and salsa, etc. to make up the difference in the evening. Yesterday though, I pretty much hit my target right after dinner, and my wife got pissed at me when I didn't really want to snack in the evening and she did :p

I was actually talking to the opening poster, who said they ended up with 1000 calories/day sometimes :)
