Weight-Loss Eat like a Caveman

Is this like walk like an Egyptian? I think eating like a caveman is much harder than walking like an Egyptian. The concept behind the PaleoDiet is that the way our bodies digest food has not changed since the caveman. What does that mean? Our bodies are not designed to eat processed foods with preservatives. This whole idea has been sweeping the health world recently. I started on my path over a year ago, although I have not been Paleo 100% of the time. Eating organic can be expensive and that is one of the only ways to be sure you are not getting any preservatives and other nasty things like fillers in or on your food. What is also means is a WHOLE LOTA Cooking. Eating out is not really an option with the Paleo diet, unless you know for sure the restaurant you are eating at is 100% organic itself. And for anyone who wears a lot of hats (I myself am Mom, Student, Realtor, Housekeeper, and so many more) adding a chefs hat to it can be overwhelming and time consuming.

What has saved me in this endeavor is the PaleoMeal shake powder I picked up from my gym. Gluten, soy, dairy, and sugar free! And let me tell you, it tastes great. I mix it with some hazelnut milk and some frozen mixed berries and it tastes like an amazing milk shake. Without the milk.

Is anyone else eating like a caveman? If so what are some of your recipes that you use?

Cavemen drinking protein shakes.... there's a mental image I'm not going to lose soon.

Luckily we are not really in the paleolithic era and can actually have some things that they did not. The only reason I do the shakes is because they are quick, easy and convenient. Much easier then having to make an omelet or something in the morning before I head to the gym (which is normally around 5:30am, and hey I'm kinda lazy and at that time of day I don't want to do too much). The PaleoMeal ones are the only ones that I could find that are high in protein, dairy free, gluten free, sugar free, soy free etc. When I am NOT too worried about the paleo diet (which I will be for as long as I can make it work) I do resort to Muscle Milk which is gluten free.

I do have to agree that it would be funny to see some caveman hanging out with a blender mixing up their frozen berries and their shake powered and hazelnut milk.

AI love hazelnut milk! I don't have a membership for a gym though, would you like to share a brand name so I can keep an eye out for this amazing protein mix you speak of? :) Do you know if they sell it in any main health stores I might be able to find?

Thank you and good luck with your caveman diet! What changes have you noticed in your body so far?

Hey Sage,

The "brand" is Designs by Health. You can find them on amazon among other sites to sell (I like amazon as I feel it is reliable). They make a whole line of products that are gluten free/soy free/ sugar free etc. I am one day away from finishing their 28-day cleanse and I feel AMAZING! Its so great when you get all the processed foods out of your diet and man can I tell you how sweet an orange is? Without sugar in my diet the naturally sweet foods seem almost too sweet now. I really can speak for how tasty the shakes are. Even though there are different flavors, the chocolate one is def the best with the hazelnut milk. I have tried coconut, almond and more but I think the hazelnut really enhances the chocolate taste. And blending in the frozen fruit really makes it taste good! I used to use bananas and strawberries (one of my fav combination of fruit) but found that the banana was not so good for my waist line if I was having more than 1 a day. So I switched to the frozen mixed berries which are healthier fruits (according to my nutritionist) and have all the antioxidants in them. I think they taste better anyways. I get my frozen fruit at target, their name brand seems to blend the best. I have also been using a food processor instead of a blender lately and the frozen fruit mixes up so much better. I have a super inexpensive small processor (this is the one I have http://www.cuisinart.com/products/food_processors/dlc-2ag.html) it was $40.

For changes I have lost 12lbs so far which is great, I did the cleanse and ate paleo for about 6 months out of last year and lost 35lbs. I think part of what has changed the most is that i just FEEL better. I used to have all these stomach problems that I don't experience any more (which is mainly I think because of the gluten which I found out I am intolerant/allergic to) but making the switch to be preservative and processed food free means I am able to know more about the foods I am eating, and I've even started eating a lot of food I never ate before. A lot more fresh veggies. I have more energy, sleep better, and have clearer skin. I've gone from a size 18-20 to a size 12-14. I really just think my body likes me more for it. I also have not been getting as sick as I used to (A cold went around, I was only sick 1-2 days while everyone else in my family was sick for a week). I really think it can all be attributed to the diet. I fell off the paleo diet for a couple months (around the holidays) and I started feeling so sick and sluggish. 27 days back on and I'm feeling great again. Its really amazing how much diet can affect how you feel!

Hope this helps!
