Eat b4 you exercise!

I know this is common sense to most, but yesterday I thought "If I don't eat that much today and still do my 3 hours at the gym, I'll lose twice as much."

Then I got to the gym, and an hour later I was thinking, "I am SO tired. I need to get out of here."

I ended up just doing 2 hours, and man, were they painful. Every step hurt 'cuz I was so damn tired and I had no energy.

That was a bad mistake, and I've done it in the past, but this is the first time I actually connected the two. Not eating something before you go to the gym wipes you out.

Today, I'm gonna eat a lean meat sandwich with tons of veggies an hour or so before I work out. I know I will be super energized! :D

Pre and post workout nutrition is the most important aspects of a dietary plan, IMO.

And 2 hours working out! That seems like an awful lot. What did you do exactly?

too much

That seems like too much exercise. And you should eat 2-3 hours before exercising to maximize your workout. Also be sure to eat 1 hour after workout to avoid starving yourself.

It's not about starving yourself. It's about refueling and igniting the rebuilding process.

Hi

Steve, I totally agree. That's what I meant. You need to eat within 1 hour after the gym to get the muscles to make the most of the food. Otherwise they will not build correctly

During the two hours, I just walked and ran (mostly the former) on the treadmil (did 4 miles) and then used the eliptical machine for the other hour.

I *did* burn myself out, but I don't think 2 hours is a lot of exercise. I mean, I'm not doing extremely vigorous exercise. So far, I've managed to stay at the gym for a minimum of 2 and a max of 3 hours every day (6 out of 7 a week).

Is that too much? On a regular day, I've been eating well. Subway sandwiches, fruit, etc. I don't feel I'm "starving" myself...only on that day...

But yeah, in the past, I have tended to be a person that can go without eating for an entire day, or at least most of the day. I don't do it on purpose, most of the time, I just don't feel like eating. This day in question, though, I did do it consciously but I realized that was a HUGE mistake. ;)

Some peple consider fasting on occasion to be healthy but I've never tried it. To me it seems dangerous, though I've heard it can cleanse the body

Yeah, I've heard that it is good for you, but only for a day or two. Obviously, if you start "fasting" too much then it kind of reaches the border of anorexia.

Sadly, been there, done that.

Ive suffered from anorexia.
A healthy fast lasts 24 hours ( for just a water fast) but you can do a fruit or soup fast for 48 hours.

I would say dont do that more than once a month the most.

Does fasting for a day really help you lose weight or feel healthier? I've pretty much vowed never to NOT eat anything a day because I feel I may fall back on old habits. Besides, not eating makes you feel horrible (at least to me it does).

I may try to fast for a day one of these days, but it would be during the holidays when I don't have to work or go to college.

Well, shoot. I always feel best when I do at least two hours. Is that bad?

I'll do 30-50 minutes on the elliptical, and then an hour of pec fly, abs, thigh abductions and adductions, leg curls, leg extensions, tricep pulldowns, bicep curls, and whatever pulling down the long bar does for me.

I used to top off my workout with another 20 minutes or so on the treadmill, but my husband started to get concerned that I was gone so long!

Ideally, I go three times a week. And yes, there have been times when I've rushed out of the house to the gym on an empty stomach, and I just drag my feet those days.
