Sport Eat away?

Sport Fitness
Hello y'all. I left home for the first time this fall (off to UT) and I was afraid of gaining weight. You see, lifting over the summer, and about two months before summer, I bulked up some 25-30lbs. and figured I could stand to lose some weight not gain it. So, I started to eat really clean and play basketball a TON.

Apparently, my body was used to eating about 3500 calories a day, and when I kicked it down to about 2000, and started playing ball... I lost a lot of weight (about 15lbs in one month). Good? Well, on the one hand - I have a lot more muscle definition than before, but my bench (and other lifting) has fallen dramtically. Here are my stats: was 143, bulked to 172, currently 158.

I pretty much just don't know how to cut weight properly, and over-do things. According to what I hear here, it should take me months to lose weight and in the meantime maintain mucle mass (the little that I do have). Anyways, here is my question. I don't want to lose any more weight, and I want my bench back w/o gaining back the weight. Can I just continue what I am doing and eat whatever I like? I mean, it is the college lifestyle and I have been enjoying beer and wings for the last week or so, in attempts to stop losing weight (and just for that purpose and no other!). Eat away unhealthily, or stop the basketball and only lift? What?

I like to take my bodyweightx12. That's usually my range for cutting. The reason you lost weight so quickly is because you drastically cut your calories. How many calories are you currently eating now? What is your main goal? To maintain the weight your at now?

Well, my goals were not too defined when I came here - only to not gain a lot of weight from the crap they serve here. I guess now my goal is just to maintain my weight (or bulk a bit), and get my bench/curl/military weights back up to before.

I guess I have to find whatever calories will maintain my weight, which will be hard because of all the basketball and lifting. I mean, should I eat more on days I lift or exercise?

For maintenance calories I usually do BWx15. See if that works based on those results. Eat at those calories for a couple weeks, if you lose or gain weight, then those aren't the right calories.

Days I lift I like to have a bit more carbs. Currently, I'm bulking, so I'm never "low carb", but off days I usually have my allotted carbs earlier on in the day, then taper off. Days I lift, carbs are centered around my workout. Because of this, I find calorie on my training days are a bit more than my off days.

Because you're maintaining, try keeping the calories the same on both days. If you find that your NOT maintaining (such as gaining or losing weight), change the calories. If your gaining weight, lower the cals, and do the opposite if you're losing weight.

Hope this helps and makes sense :)
