DXA Scan Results - HELP!

Hello!

I am 5'5, 165 lb, and 40% body fat. I just learned this today through a dxa scan - this has been hard to digest because I honestly thought I was doing well with working out and losing weight. Those online calculators for body compositions can be incredibly inaccurate, but I didn't think it would be that far off.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have been working out for 2 years, 5 days a week doing interval training and weight lifting. I have been watching what I eat. The dxa scan said that my BMR is 1,325 cals a day. I have been working out and eating around 1500 cals/day.

I've had my hormones tested and there are no abnormal results there....

Does anyone have any experience reading these scan results?

Thanks!

According to your BMI, you are indeed overweight, but 40% bodyfat still seems a little too high a number to me. I'm by no means a medical expert though, so my opinion isn't relevant.

I'm confused too, but BMI calculators and other body fat calculators often underestimate. Thanks for your response.

I've read that for body fat analysis, these scans are the most accurate thing you can do. Definitely not what I was expecting...

You could also try measuring your bodyfat % on your own by buying those calipers. If the measurements you get are a lot different than the results of your DXA scan, maybe consult your doctor about it again. It could be that something went wrong during the test or something like that. It's some additional effort, but I tihnk when it comes to measuring your bodyfat percentage, it should be made sure that the results are as accurate as possible.
