dry lips & throat while running

hey there.
i'm a regular jogger here.

everytime when i run, my lips will get dry, and my throat too, as i breathe through mostly my mouth.

i live in singapore, in which the weather is hot & sunny, not forgetting humid too. (tropical weather)

are there any ways which i can prevent my lips & throat from drying, while running?
or am i breathing wrongly? (through my mouth)

give tips & advices, thanks!

Are you drinking water?

If you were exercising in a cold and dry environment that could be the cause of your throat becoming dry.. but you're not.. so the only thing I can think of that might help would be drinking more water.

It's really a common thing. If you want, you can put on some chap stick before you go run. With the dry throat, depending on how long you're running you might want to carry a bottle of water with you. either way, when you run and breathe through your mouth your throats gonna get dry. :confused4:

while running. It is very important to drink while you exercise because you lose a lot of water through sweat, respiration, etc. If you don't drink while running, I bet that is why your throat gets dry.
There are other benifits to drinking water while exercising aswell, for example: When you sweat your blood plasma decreases, so your blood volume goes down, this makes it so your heart will get filled less before each stroke, this decreases stroke volume and your heart has to make up for that by increasing heart rate. So if you hadn't lost blood volume you could have exercised at a higher intensity with the same heart rate.

I have an issue that is sorta like this one but when i run my throat feels like i am trying to breath in an ice cube it burns, and no matter how much water i drink when run it does not change and it happens not matter what time of day it is and no matter what time of year it is. it also only takes about 5 mins to kick in, it makes it a little harder to breath. and ideas?

for me, believe it or not, a stick of gum helps. the saliva that results from chewing gum keeps my mouth and throat moist.

Thirteenshoe, the advise that you have received is mostly wrong. The best way for you to combat this problem is to keep working at it by running often, but dont push yourself dude, just take it slow and steady, try small sips regulary during your runs, or as some have suggested have a suger free peice of gum under your tongue, if you choose to use gum make sure its a strong minty one it will keep your mouth generally salivered, and will give you a comfortable cool feeling in your throat while you take in breaths.

Is my advice wrong? I'd like to know why

i get very dry lips during winter runs so i put chapstick on before every run. for dry throat i would take a piece of mint candy with me and put it in my mouth halfway threw the run, it will refresh your mouth just don't choke on it since you are breathing threw the mouth. maybe put it under your tongue so it will dissolve on it own, and of course small sips of water.
