I am trying to cut my daily soda intake to 1 a day. The only problem is that i really dislike a lot of water. One glass is fine, but anything after that is hard for me to do. Is there any alternative to water that has flavor and I can drink w/o worrying about the cals?

Have you tried water flavoring packets like Crystal Light? They're 10 cals a packet(check on other brands though, one of them is 60 cals for a packet). They've been helpful in getting me to keep my water intake up.

I would avoid anything that has artificial sweeteners in it.

Flavouring your water is a good idea though - just use something natural, like a little lemon or lime juice. Someone here suggested throwing a little actual fruit in water - like a few berries or something.

How about tea? Tea has no calories. Green tea is particularly good for you.

I quit soda cold turkey... I don't like being addicted to something. If its a daily routine, that you have to try to cut back on its an addiction in my opinion

I have turned to Green tea. But I use artificial sweeteners, I use truvia as a sweetener. I figure i'm doing enough good things, that artificial sweetener is definitely better than HFCS anyway

no, i haven't tried the CL stuff. i will pick some up tomorrow and see if i like it.

I used to drink WaWa iced teas like crazy like a gallon a day. I used to really dislike water but I just said F it and started to drink it. Now its almost all I drink. I still have an unopened half gallon on iced tea in my fridge thats 2 months past exp date. I leave it in there for motivation I guess, puts a smile on my face everytime I open fridge and see it.

Besides the actual juice, I actually tried to add some Kumquat peels to my water once and it was pretty good (but I also added a small amount of artificial sweetener). Very lightly orange-y yet refreshing. I assume some orange/lime/lemon zest could be just as good, but you'd have to try and find out.

What artificial sweeteners have you guys had success with?

I'm a personal trainer and always looking for helpful things to suggest to my clients.

I know a lot of the artificial sweeteners have a lot of drawbacks....

Any suggestions?

I avoid them all. I'd rather go with smaller quantities of natural sugars than any amount of an artificial sweetener.

That being said, Splenda (sucralose) is by some considered to be the safest of the artificial sweeteners.

I have JUST started doing this, take a non-caffeine tea bag, such as fruit/herb/green tea bag and drop into your water bottle with string and tag still attached. Twist cap back on, leave in for however strong you want it. I am starting to ween my intake of ice tea mix. Unless my water is carbonated or I've been working out hard, or it's terribly hot, I won't be drinking plain water any time soon. ;)

Take Care

do you like fruits?... :smash: have a refreshing taste of fresh fruit shakes.. they are something easy to prepare and you can have have variaties of fruit shakes everyday..

Sometimes for me it's not the flavor, it's the fizziness. I buy club soda - just the plain store brand - and drink that sometimes. If I feel I need more, I might add a small splash of fruit juice, or a squeeze of lemon or lime.

I broke my soda addiction by switching to flavored seltzer water. Then, I realized that it has aspartame in it so am breaking my seltzer water habit!! Right now, I am drinking water with a slice of lemon and some agave nectar - sort of a lighter lemonade.

I used to drink 4 Pepsi's a day. Switched it over to 2 Sprites a day.. then to Powerade and now I am addicted to water. I drink it with breakfast, lunch and dinner and I think everything else tastes nasty. Just try ordering water with your meals and it will become a habit, and start drinking it more and more at home.

How bad is Aspartame when trying to lose weight, because I like to drink the Diet Green Tea drinks and it says it contains Aspartame, same thing with some of the Crystal Light powder's.

This is something that each person has to decide. There are some people who say that artificial sweeteners are tools of the devil :D and some who say that there's no big deal.

I personally fall somewhere in the middle. In general I try to avoid processed foods as much as possible - and that includes artificial sweeteners. I do, however, drink Diet Coke once in a while (maybe 3x a week) and I don't think it's hurt my weight loss or that I'm going to die of some horrible form of cancer because I do.

I'd say do the research (from REPUTABLE sources, please - not scare sites) and make your own determination on what's best/healthiest for you.

Thanks Kara, I started drinking these Diet Green Tea's from Costco, and I think I just have been drinking way too much of them , including some diet snapple. My weight loss has kind of slowed as of recent , I'm trying to cut them down now.
Is it the same thing with Maltodextrin and Splenda (sucralose)?
