Drink Coffee Before A Run?

Is it dangerous to drink coffee just before a run? I was thinking maybe It could help you reach the fat burning time faster, but... at the same time, it would be dangerous to do right?

I'd say not necessarily dangerous but not beneficial... Its like eating something with sugar, quick burst, hard crash. Eat pasta like an hour before if you want a good solid fuel source before a short performance. I used to do it for practice at hockey as it only last 30-60 minutes, ate a pasta about an hour before, could perform higher than any other levels doing that and helped the performance level all around(harder practice, harder play later). Of course this may not have been good for me and I had no idea either, it just worked at the time. :)

it's dangerous in the sense that caffeine is a diuretic. you know what happens if you exercise with little water? you can black out.

i know this because i almost passed out once, running in the hot sun after drinking coffee for "energy."

i don't drink coffee, but i'm sure there are healthier things you can eat or drink before a run. sorry i'm not more of a help for you.

I don't see why it would make reaching your fat burning time faster, that generally happens immediately when you get into an athletic activity. If you want caffeine, take it for the taste. You probably don't even need it for energy after a run, gets you pumped. Good if you don't have time to exercise but do want a warm drink in the morning before work though.

Drinking coffee + Cold weather + Running = setting yourself up for some serious bladder discomfort

yea I dont use it before a run either because of just that reason actually and it doesnt do much for my stamina anyway so.
Its good with caffeine/coffee before going to the gym but it really does drive out liquid.. I take a Piss before I go to the gym(15min walk) and still have to hit the head again once i get there lol.

Caffiene actually boosts your bodies thermogenics. Your core body temp will go up, and thus you feel like you have more energy. But like someone else noted, when your in the hot sun...probably not the best thing ever.

There are supplements that replicate this effect, and dont act as a diuretic, just take them responsibly.

Could cause cramp

I can't remember where I read it but there was a theory that it could increase your chances of cramp if you drink coffee before a run.

I usually end up having coffee about two hours before I run. Doesn't really seem to hurt.
