Don't wanna be miserable anymore

Hi guys!

I decided to join this forum because im so miserable right now. I gained weight and im at my highest weight ever and that's so frustrating. I'll log all my food and hope it's going to keep me on track.

A little bit about me: I'm 19 year old student and I've been struggling with my weigh for 4 or 5 years now. I wasn't an overweight child but gained a looooot of weight during my teens and been trying to lose it ever since.

My plan: eating 3 meals a day with few healthy snacks (mostly fruits) and exercising (doing yoga, strength training and cycling 5 times a week for 30 minutes), so nothing new.

Stats:
height 5"2
starting weight: 165 lbs
goal: 110

Welcome to the forum. Is there any particular food/drink that you will cut down or out of your daily "diet" to help you lose weight? Find something that suits you & is sustainable long-term. Don't be miserable. You can do this.

Ohh, thanks for the beautiful words:)) and I guess I would like to eat less bread and pastry because i eat too much of it and it's definitely not helping to control my weight

Cutting down on bread & pastry will make a big difference. Sometimes small changes are what's needed. Try things out & see what happens. Also concentrating on getting good nutrition is always a good idea.

In my experience starting a good diet can make one feel a lot better, I know losing weight is the goal and that will come, but just starting can do a lot to make the feeling of misery go away.

Consider starting a diary and posting your food daily, it will help keep you accountable and you'll get lots of support and advice from folks.

Best of luck!

What the others said. Also: maybe you could start by switching out the bread you do eat for something whole grain? Few people overeat on whole grain bread (even though it tastes good) so it could act as a natural brake without complicating your normal life.

...
so nothing new? ... maybe it is time for something new. my suggestion would be two meals a day (not more than 5-6 hours apart) with perhaps a healthy snack or two inbetween (a whole piece of fruit, eg) and nothing until the next day. that part is pretty important so it bears repeating... and nothing until the next day.

if you are overweight at 19, i would also review your diet with your doctor of a nutritionist. chances are it is high in sugar. don't be alarmed... you are in the majority. i must admit i probably had a high sugar diet as a teenager even before it was so prevalent in all processed foods. luckily it was also before computer games so i was typically active outdoors for most of the daylight hours. how much of the day don't you move much?

if you have 12 minutes, here is a good TED talk aimed at women, but really valid for everyone...

get smart... change without a change is a tough road.

Thanks for the advice! I'll do more research on intermittent fasting - I've heard is very effective. But I'm afraid that I'll binge if I eat just two meals a day.

And by saying "nothing new" I mean that ill be doing what is known to be effective and healthy but I got your point that I have to make a change in order to change:)

you're right both about my diet being high in sugar and about exercising. It's especially hard for me to exercise because I'm not an active person at all. But I'm trying to do things I love - riding bicycle or doing yoga

Welcome!

You’ve woken up alive today and today is the first day of your new life. This is a great time to be you!

Cycling is great for your health for many reasons, just don’t over do it.

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

You can make this change. And if you find yourself eating something you really shouldn't: stop as soon as you can and get back on track. We all overdo it sometimes but as long as you don't use that as an "excuse" to keep overdoing it (because this meal/day/weekend/lifetime is already ruined anyway) it won't annihilate your previous progress.

This is very relevant to me because I always do that. When I eat more than I planned to I give up completely and start bingeing. And then it's really hard to get back on track. But I'm trying to overcome this all or nothing mindset and not to give up when things don't go as planned

Today I feel like I ate a lot but calorie wise it wasn't too much. And I managed to get out to exercise and cycled for an hour. So overall it was quite a good day.

breakfast: bowl of oatmeal w/ tbsp peanut butter and 0.5 banana; tea w/ whole milk (360)
lunch: 1 bowl of creamy chicken stew w/ veggies (400)
snack: apple; tea w/ whole milk (150)
dinner: 1.5 smoked salmon sandwich w/ cream cheese and veggies (420)

1330 calories

Welcome to the diaries! It looks like you had a good start yesterday!
