Hi all,

I am hoping you can help me. Thanks in advance.

I heard about a food program where you diet during the week, then eat "normally" Sat and Sun.

Does this help the metabolism from shutting down from starvation?

If you know of a link, please forward. Thanks!!!

I am not sure what diet in particular you may be refering to but the idea of a cheat day or days can help you stick to strcit diet during the week days a little eaier for some people.

Be careful though, as if your like me, once you get a taste of your normal food going back to your diet in the week can be harder :p

My diet is high protein and strict through the week for weight gain through weight training, but whether its weight gain or weight loss a cheat day might help you :)

There are more tips

Agreeing with Steve, here... It's best to adopt a diet as a new lifestyle, not something that you have to suffer through. It will help when you actually lose the weight, since you'll be more content and less inclined to regain it by going back to how you used to eat.

Just eat what you like, but in moderation, so that you can eat the foods you love but still stay within your calorie limit :)

I think you're looking for the zig-zag diet.

I recommend reading it, it teaches you things you might not know. As for using the diet plan, thats entirely up to you.. Just remember everyone is different and no plan is for everyone.

I also recommend to take the information in as a guideline, not a rule or strict plan.

I think it is called "TAMMY'S PLAN" lol I seem to have been
doing that on my own lately and still losing I eat strictly and
work my ass of Sun-Thurs then I was cheating just on Fridays
but this week and last week was Saturday to and still lost 2lbs!
My normal plan is 1200 calories a day breakfast, lunch dinner and 2 snacks
then if I lose on Friday I treat myself! Tammy

I honestly don't think that taking the weekend off from your diet has to be a bad thing. Eating what you want on the weekends doesn't necessarily mean pigging out on everything you missed during the week. I lost over 80 pounds and did not stick to all of my healthy eating habits on the weekend.

I think that having a couple of meals you love on the weekends is a great motivator. If you're like me, you looooooove food (or certain food) and it's highly unlikely you're going to stay on a diet that does not allow you to eat what you like on a semi regular basis. This is especially the case if you plan to stay healthy for the rest of your life. It's not easy to give up your favorite foods forever, but it's also not very logical to go on a diet, lose the weight you need to, then go back to your old eating habits altogether.

I also think you become discouraged by the guilt you feel when you "break" your diet by giving into your cravings. If this is something that is planned, and done in moderation, it becomes a great motivator. It gives you something to work toward and makes it easier to change your eating habits for the long run.

Yeah I totally agree with JonDoe. I didn't even know there was a plan for this but its what I've been doing. I do it because I love food and I know I love food. I'm not an emotional eater, maybe more of a stress eater to take my mind off things but since I've finally taken the plunge to commit to a healthy lifestyle I try to eat as healthy as possible as often as possible. I'm still young and I know my friends want to go out on the weekends. So I try to eat healthy when I'm on my own so that when I do actually have the opportunity to cheat I don't feel as awful about it. And when I cheat I eat in moderation. I use to clear my plate at a restaurant or eat til I was stuffed. Now when I cheat I eat til I am satisfied and I don't take home the left overs. Also I made a rule to not try anymore new desserts. Cause I did that one time and I was craving it for a week until I finally got to go back to the restaurant and have 3 bites of it. The only thing with cheating is that it will take longer to lose the weight however, you'll be losing real weight. And it's true, its a great motivator. I know that if I cheat I try to burn up to an extra 100 calories everyday than usual when I go to the gym during the week.

That is the exact reason why I had to completely cut sweets out of my diet. I would go for weeks without any, decide to 'treat' myself and then the next day end up acting like a junkie going through detox! I realized that I am a sugar addict and like with any addiction, you simply cannot allow yourself a taste and expect to be alright.

Couldn't agree more! My 'lifestyle change' of almost a year now consists of 5 low carb days and 2 whatever-I-want days. I lose weight slowly (usually 1 pound a week unless I exercise) but it's a maintainable weight loss and I don't feel deprived or resentful or crazy.
