Doing Hiit around 11:00 pm?

So I am not a morning person when it comes to exercise, so I squeeze in my time at the gym around after work. I get off of work at 11:00 and I am heading to the gym. I started doing hiit and I was wondering is it counterproductive around this time? I also noticed after I am done I head home for bed it disturbs my sleep? After a heavy session of hiit it disturbs my sleep bad? Is all this hard work for nothing? I rather do hiit at night than the day.

But then again I heard its good to keep the metabolism burning during the day. A little help here.

If you can't sleep, then I would say it's not a good thing.

Your body needs time to wind down before sleeping. That's why you're having trouble sleeping. When you exercise, you are "awakening" your body, and making yourself more alert.

Most experts say that the best time to exercise is early in the morning, however, the amount lost does not change whenever you exercise- it's just a mindset- a way to set the mood for the day.

You might want to consider moving your exercise to another time, or requesting for a transfer to a different shift. I had this problem too when I worked late hours. Not much I could do, so I didn't exercise at all. And look at what happened. Here I am. LOL

Or, maybe exercise before you go to work? Give yourself an hour to go home, shower and go off to work...

Anyhow, best of luck!

This past summer I generally ran at around 10 or 11 every night just because it was cooler outside.

I never had an issue with sleeping running late at night unless I went for a very long run (5 or more miles), honestly I feel that it made me sleep better, granted I usually don't go to sleep till around one or two though. I still run at night during the winter if I have to.

If it's causing a disturbance in your sleeping patterns then you shouldn't do it at that time. Try to find another available time.

Though for me personally, lots of exercise is what helps me sleep at night.

Very interesting. Perhaps excessive exercise is a good way to knock oneself out to sleep. That sounds like a good solution to insomnia! :D
