Does The Elliptical Overdevelop The Hips?

Hi, I'm a spoon/pear shape. Does the elliptical overdevelop the hip muscles? I'm trying to slim my hips and reduce the "outgrowth"? Is elliptical training the right way for me to proceed?

Here are my stats:
Weight: 135.5 lbs Goal: 128 lbs
Height: 5'6
Chest: 30.5"
Hips: 36.75"
Waist: 27.25"

Cardio: 6 days/week, 30 min bike or elliptical
Weight-training: 5 days/week (mostly arms and chest), leg calisthenics

I think running's the best way to achieve this. Elliptical's one of the best alternatives to running, and neither will increase hip width. Both will decrease hip, butt and waist size if done rigorously/daily, the elliptical for at least 20 continuous minutes daily with the idea of increasing duration and intensity over time.

Pumpster, I get a better workout from an Elliptical trainer. I am running and using an Elliptical trainer 4-5 times a week. I know I do better on the trainer because i can push myself sooo hard. I cant push myself hard running because of my joints (knees) hurting. and the next day pain..... This is just me though. mebby if I was in better "running" shape, I would get a better workout.

So for me, its the trainer

That's the thing, running's great but problematic for some. Elliptical's excellent and part of the attaction's that the workouts don't seem as gruelling as some other types of exercise but work very well.
