hi guys, i want to ask a question?

does eating six times a day really help in weight loss?

Cant i eat threee small meals daily?

has anyone here lost weight through that method?

This has been discussed endlessly and the consensus is it all comes to personal preference.

At the end of the day all that matters is whether or not you've created an energy deficit if your goal is to lose weight.

That's the only method (short of surgery) that works to lose weight.

A lot of the top experts these days are saying that you dont need to eat six times a day to "keep your metabolism burning"

Doc is right about it's all about having a calorie deficit at the end of the day. Now here is my take on eating six meals. I am a person that always did and probably always will like to eat. If i go too long between meals I become really hungry. I have learned that the more hungry i am the less control i have over what I eat. So, i do like to eat 6 times a day to help control my overall intake.

Hope this helps.

6 meals a Day

Hi there,

I have a personal friend who has at least 6 meals a day PLUS.

He is also a gym junkie, burning up as much as he takes in.

If we step back and take a look at what the everyday person does, it would probably be something like, light breakfast, sandwiches for lunch with the main meal at dinner time.

This could be a big source of our problem as during the evening we are not as active and after a hard days work most people are probably soaking up their favourite tv program, so whereabouts does our meal go ?

Germans on the other hand have their main meal at lunchtime with a very light meal at dinner time.

Here's the summary from :
If eating more frequently makes it easier to control/reduce calories, it will help you to lose weight/fat.
If eating more frequently makes it harder to control/reduce calories, or makes you eat more, you will gain weight.
If eating less frequently makes it harder for you to control/reduce calories (because you get hungry and binge), it will hurt your efforts to lose weight/fat.
If eating less frequently makes it easier for you to control/reduce calories (for any number of reasons), then that will help your efforts to lose weight/fat

So pick whichever works best for you.

i think it's different for every person.

i've heard a million times that eating 6 smaller meals a day helps you lose weight...from my experience, it has made me gain weight. i switched to eating 6 smaller meals because the majority of people advised me too, but i gained 5 lbs. when i was eating 3 meals and a snack, i was losing weight. i exercised both ways.

try it out and see what works better for you i'd say.

Well it should work out the same if you are eating the same amounts over the whole day.

So make three meals, split them all in half? There's your 6 meals. If you don't have time to eat them in small amounts, eat them as 3 meals?

You don't actually have to make 6 individual meals???? Just have 6 eating times.

yeah it all depends. i use it to spread out my calories and stuff. i think i eat 7 times during the week and 5 on the weekends. but im really active. like when i go into bulking, the more meals makes it easier to take in the necessary cals instead of trying to get them into three big meals

Eating six meals is commonly practiced by bodybuilders, etc.

It can have its advantages:
1. You never really get that hungry since you are having a meal every few hours.
2. Smaller meals can mean a smaller blood sugar/insulin spike.

But keep in mind a "meal" can just be a snack (protein shake, apple and lowfat milk, etc). Try healthy snacks in between meals and see if it helps you reach your goals. But keep in mind that (as another commenter said) overall calorie balance will be the ultimate factor.

Hello everyone. yeah Shep03 I agree with you.
In my case it don't work, as soon as I started to eat more than 3 times a day, I guess I eat all the day round.lol

Sumos

Here's an article I wrote about Sumo wrestlers. It makes sense to do the opposite of what they do:

It depends from person to person.

I find eating more times a day means I'm never hungry.

When I do get hungry that's when I weaken and 'pig out'.
