Does altitude training work?

Hello everyone!

This is my first post to the forums here and I'm looking for your experience/opinion with a piece of training equipment. (And also anyone who can tell me how I can upload an actual photo/avatar!)

My buddy who trains as an amateur MMA fighter swears up and down that one of the keys to his training is this training mask he uses that simulates high altitudes. He's in a lot better shape than I am, and so I'm thinking about secretly starting to use one of these training masks for when I run and bike.

He's using this old gas-mask looking thing, but there is a new version of the mask coming out soon that looks a lot sleeker. Before I commit to ordering, I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with products like this and whether or not they are truly beneficial?

If you don't understand what I mean or you want to see a visual, here's the mask I'm considering:

Altitude training is only effective if you plan on competing at altitude. This is because the body needs to adjust to the lower concentration of oxygen in the air, so many athletes will either move to a high-elevation area early before competition, or "train low, rest high", where they will spend their downtime at high altitude.

However, your body reverts to back to normal as soon as you return to sea level, so there's no long-term benefits of altitude training.

Motivation plays important role in each of every spare of our life. I notice that some people feel tired and bored while running or jogging but they keep themselves motivated by listening songs or others.

I think over here 'mask' is a symbol and it's all about belief. Your trainer has great intuition power and he thinks that his mask is the symbol of his motivation. Now think about his success. Now he got a nice ripped body as every one expect it.

This is really a great idea to chance our attitude and if possible participating this type of attitude training bring positive attitude in all the aspect of our life.

"Altitude", with an "L".
