Does a cold "eat" your energy?

I had a bad cold and took a week off training. Hitting the gym over the weekend, I seemed to have lost energy like Superman exposed to Krypton or whatever that stuff that "eats" his energy. My squats, military press all sucked big time, I wondered whether I should have taken a vacuum to the gym.

Is it normally that bad after a cold?

yeah, don't worry about it. You'll be back up and running in no time. I don't know the physiological reasons behind it, but I've experienced it myself.

When you're fighting an infection, your energy gets put into your immune system and sucked away from everything else your body doesn't need when it's fighting off invaders. You're getting over being sick, of course you're going to feel crummy. Give it a few more days and you should feel better.

Sweat it out in the sauna (if there is one) that's always fun ;)

Try skiing with a major hang over - now that takes energy :(

Skiing! Try racing a surf boat with a killer hangover!

Your probably just a bit weakened. You will regain your strength.

I workout even when i have a cold and i find that they go quicker if you still workout.

Well after having Bronchitis and an acute Sinusitis for the last 3 weeks, believe me, it's normal. I'm still on antibiotics for another week and am under strict instructions to take it easy. [ I was told if I had waited any longer it would have been walking Pneumonia.] I'm still coughing and can feel it in my lungs, but am much better than before the meds and I'm definitely on the mend.

Even so, I feel extremely weak. Can't seem to keep my concentration, and couldn't lift a 1 pound weight if I had help.....lol

Let your body come back gradually. If you push yourself too hard you may injure yourself and then you'll really get frustrated. Do your workout but don't over do it.

However, The hot tub, or a steam room sounds really good to me :D

Normally when I'm sick, I go lift anyway, and every time I have a great lift (weird or what?). Makes me feel good and takes the cold off my mind.

But yeah, I'd imagine it's normal if your lifts kinda suck after being sick
