Do we need supplements?

It seems like EVERYONE is taking creatine or some kind of drink to get the edge on others. I dont take any and I dont really plan too, if you have a good diet such as 5-6 meals a day and get a good amount of protein in do you still need these supplements or the only way to get to 1- 1 1/2 grams of protien per lb is to take supplements?

If you can do it with your diet then keep on doin what you're doin.

no, we do not need or have to take creatine or protein supplements. personally i feel creatine is better utlized after ones been training for a good amount of time and has made serious progress. now we have ppl taking creatine before they even do their first rep.

and if someone has no trouble eating enough protein, then they do not need a supplement. some say we need a powder to take after training, even thats debatable.

Are the supplements straight protien? Like something that you cant get from a normal diet? I could ezily kill about 300 grams of protien a day i think heh. But foods like grilled chicken and cottage chese do they have something in them that is bad that supplements dont have?

the term 'supplement' encompasses a wide range of products, not just 'protein powder' or creatine.
A daily multivitamin is a supplement.
Fish oil caps or flaxseed oil is a supplement too.

Personally for me, I take protien cos i want whst is best for my muscles. I dont want to put in all this hard work and not benifit because I could get enough protien in to my system.

I would love to get all my protien from my diet, but Im buying my 1st house and protien is cheaper that freash meat.

I am limited to 5eggs, 1tin of tuna and 2 chicken breasts a day, all the rest comes from powders.

I didnt find that creatine helped that much, I didnt take it during my last bulking phase and I put on 20lbs.

Green tea and multi vit?

well I'd say take half doses, if your feed shrink or your eyes change colour then switch to vitamin C

Manofkent 5eggs, 1tin of tuna and 2 chicken breasts a day...Isnt that a GRIP of protien? or not really I dont know how many grams are in a chicken breast? This is what im thinking a chicken breast per meal so 3 chicken breasts and cottage chese or something else for snacks... but chicken breast has alot of grams right or is there anyway u can calculate this?

gotta weigh the chicken breast to know for sure. type and size of can of tuna matters.

5 whole large eggs would be 385cals 26g fat 3g carbs 31g protein

Wow, this is pretty insane to even hit 1:1 with grams to weight. I would take a supplement but me and my buddies went 20 bucks in who can bench the most according to weight %. No supplements so I am gonna do this by eating hopefully 1 to 1 1/2 chicken breasts each meal cottage cheese for snacks and milk to drink.

is a fairly decent site for finding info on foods or foods that meet what you are looking for.

I find chicken breasts (whole / boneless) to be around 20-30g of protien each (again depends on size/brand/etc).

Everything else you buy should have the data on the side. You are right though to hit 1:1g of protien for body weight if you are in the 200lb range is tough, and can get expensive (even with just food).

I am currently taking in ~250g of protein a day and it requires me to use shakes etc, otherwise my George Foreman Grill would be running 24/7 :)

You do need supplements

While I don't take protein supplements or anything to gain mass, it is imparitive that you take a quality multivitamin supplement. Not a one a day from the local drug store or even a brand name like Centrum.

I take a multivitamin, extra calcium/magnesium, omega-3 and CoEnzyme Q10. All of these keep our bodies running at optimal health levels and aid in muscle recovery. Plus it's not a bad bonus that you never get sick because your immune system is so strong.

So if you are looking to gain mass I would say extra protein is a good idea, but not imparitive. If you are looking to be healthy and feel good, try some quality supplements.

Best wishes,
Mike

You bet anything used to "supplement" your natural diet is a supplement, vitamins, shakes, creatine etc.

My basics are:

Multivitamin - as mentioned a good quality one.
Veggie Greens - cause I know I dont eat 5-7 servings of veggies in a day
Udo's 3-6-9 - Omega's, flax seed oil etc, YUM... cough
