Disabled and Trying to Lose Weight

Hi everybody, I am new to this site. I actually thought I'd join for some insight and advice. I would like to start off by saying I'm 23 :) I have a neuro-muscular disease called spinal muscular atrophy type 2. It's a disease that I was diagnosed with at 9 months old. It slowly kills the muscle as time passes. I am now in an electric wheelchair have been for a while. I do have limited mobility. I have recently been dying to lose weight but as you can tell working out is difficult. At the moment I am at around 150 lbs and I am 5 ft tall. I want to atleast be at 130 or 120. I know it would help me feel stronger and prolong my life. I move what I can when I can to atleast get something motivated. I cut out sodas and drink lots of water. I was just wondering if anyone can give me tips and pointers? I know weight loss pills are bad, well some, but if there is anything safe out there that could help me out? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Welcome to the forum.

The easiest way to start a weight loss program is to count calories, in my opinion. You can use an App such as Lose it! or a website such as fit day or My Fitness Pal.

The diet is really the most important, and while exercise can help in some cases, it isn't really necessary and useful as a weight loss tool, simply because of the volume required to make a difference, so don't worry too much about it.

As for pills... They are better avoided. They could be scams or dangerous in the worst case.

You don't really need to ban any food. You can start counting calories and progress from there, doing the changes your comfortable with.
