Sport Digital caliper test - accurate?

Sport Fitness
Hey all,

I picked up a digital caliper this morning because I was tired of my gym's horrible, inaccurate method (standard scale--prints out BF based on height and weight).

Upon getting my test done (3 sites, programmed) I got a 10% BF. I found this hard to believe since my abs don't quite show yet without flexing.

Measurements:
Chest: 5.0mm
Abdominal: 17.0mm
Theigh: 5.0mm

What do you guys think?

does it only do a 3pt? 4pt is kind of a minimum, 7pt is ideal.

agreed. I use just the simple plastic calipers but use a 7 site test. I find that its the best reading I can get. Digital in fat testing in general has a much larger margin for error. However I will state that you can use any of them to measure progress. Doesn't matter what the number is, just make sure it goes down basically. When you look in the mirror and see what you want, that is the ultimate tester.

Yes it only does 3 sites. Unfortunately, I didn't know this before purchasing---nothing made mention of it on the outside of the box! I'm very upset now as I have been searching for calipers, and I finally get them---and their bogus.

I'm seeing a nutritionist on Monday night to do another test, to double check. I'm also going to ask her about a clean bulking program---I think it's going to be that time soon!

Accu-measure makes a 7-pt digital, but it's like $60-70. When it comes down to it, it's not the digital that makes it less accurate, but rather, the fewer samplings.

Note, anything above 3-pt will require someone else do the testing because it you'll need to test a site on your back.
