If you actively take part in running it is best to take in a lot of carbs. Carbs are used as a energy source for any lengthy exercise such as running or cycling. This basically means that if you dont eat enough carbs then you wont bave the energy to actually do it.
If you are starting to put weight then this is a key sign to you that you are eating too many carbs.
So yeah, carry on eating carbs. :), it's extremely good for running, but if you start to gain weight that may be to too many carbs and not enough exercise to burn all the carbs off.

You definitely need carbs, preferably from whole grain sources such as whole wheat pasta and bread. If you get the chance, check out Nancy Clark's nutrition books.

You could wisit a dietist.
You can try out different food combinations and you will quickly notice what works best for you.
You need carbs as fuel to run.
How many/combination ratio with proteins - depends on you, and allso if you run long or fast.
Good luck
