Desperately need advice... Very, very concerned

Hello,

It's nearly 3am here in merry old england and I got up about 30 mins ago to wonder around and I was doing some stretches when I realised an odd sound.

Bending side to side, I heard what sounded like breathing although I was technically holding my breath and not voluntarily moving my diaphragm. When I did it faster the sound became very loud.

I was wondering if this is normal or in fact have a punctured lung or something dreadful?

Any help is very much appreciated,

Thankyou,

(Super)Feather

When you move to the side your body will force air out of your lungs. Its just because it compresses th elungs on the side you are bending. No worries. If you had punctured a lung you would be in pain and would have increasingly trouble breathing. You would feel really short of breath. Its all good. Did you do something to make you concerned that your lung would be punctured?

Well, no, and I feel fine.

But I hear exhalation when my left side is compressed, and inhalation when the right is compressed (and left is expanded), which suggests that one lung is behaving differently to the other.

Otherwise, as one lung is compressed and the other expanded, there would be no net change in the volume of air in the lungs.

I woke my brother and he said it might be air in my stomach:rolleyes:

I'm not sure where you are getting your info from but when one lung is compressed the other doesn't expand. The residual volume in the compessed lung would change but not the other. Your brother could be right, if you have been swallowing air, like when you are in an accident you gasp and swallow air into your stomach. Forget about what you are hearing (unless trained and with a stethoscope) what do you feel when you are doing this. You will have some movement of air when you move your body certain ways because of the way your internal organs move. I think you have nothing to worry about and should relax and think about something else.
