hey guys. im 17 years old, male, 5 foot 10, 170lbs. this time last year i was about 190 and without realizing it, i weighed 165 in august. When i noticed that, i started going to the gym and eating really healthy becuase i wanted to get to 160. I ended up cutting my calories too much for about 2 months and lost a lot of weight but then quickly gained it back when i slowly upped my calories. It was probably mid december that i started eating normal again. I do everything right, eat healthy, drink lots of water, no soda, drink green tea, do hiit, cardio, get lots of exercise with my job and i have been eating roughly 2200 calories per day. i dont undernstand why i weight 170 now and cant lose any weight. It seems like i keep gaining weight because it is getting harder and harder to fit into my jeans which is real discouraging because i gave up a lot of crappy foods and a bad lifestyle and i cant lose weight but i keep gaining. I counted my calories for months and it was real depressing so i dont no what to do because i feel like my body is completely against me

If you're gaining weight, then you're eating too much, it's pretty much that simple.

Are you absolutely, 100% sure that you're eating 2200 calories? Do you weigh and measure your food? Are you 100% accurate with portion sizes?

Study after study has shown that people who are "dieting" and not losing - or even gaining - are NOT eating as little as they think they are. People consistently (not even consciously) snack, miscalculate calories, use incorrect portion sizes, etc.

Can you post what you eat on a daily basis - get really detailed and give one full day of your food.

I would suggset that you sign up for fitday or livestrong or one of those sites and be religious about logging your food and seeing where your calories and nutrition fall - for at least 2 weeks.

see if the local gyms will give you a free body fat analysis, or if the school will (ask the nurse or PE teacher). That much weight, you might be blowing on fat, of course, you can also be throwing on some lean mass. yes, pretty much only when you have a calorie surplus or really really genetically gifted.

tracking your diet and for you and your age, heavy lifting will be your main points here. You're at the perfect time in your life to throw on muscle, so get to it.

trust me, i know that i have been measuring right. i logged everything i ate, even if it was one carrot. how many calories should a 17 year old boy be eating if he is pretty active. I do wieght lifting on opposite days to hiit. i throw in some eliptical cardio. Plus monday- friday i usually get a good 2 solid hours of collecting carriages at my job.

Well let's see .. in another thread you said you were eating 2700 calories per day. In another thread you said you've just come off a "starvation diet".

Until you get your story straight, it's going to be hard to be able to give you accurate advice.

the reason i feel like this is because last thursday, friday, and saturday i had some extra sweets that i normally dont have but i still exercised. I dont no if its water weight or what but my jeans dont fit me that well right now and my face and stomach almost seems bigger. It doesnt make sense. Ive been drinking alot of water so ill c if its water weight because im finally starting to have to urinate again . Could that be what it is?

Sometimes what can happen when a person loses weight too quickly is the body puts up a protection barrier. It’s almost like it says, "Let’s keep this fat or make it difficult to lose just in case we starve again.

To combat this a good place to start would be to change a few of the words that you say to yourself. One of those words would be 'losing weight', because what do you want to do when you lose something? FIND IT. A lot of the times losing something as negative consequences. Losing your wallet or purse, losing your car keys.

So if a person is telling themselves or others that they are losing weight in a fashion they are telling their mind to find it. So rather than saying that you are losing weight just say that you are managing your weight or controlling your weight.

Something else which would be beneficial for you to do is to stop saying to yourself that you are on a diet. The word diet as a negative meaning to it. Again it’s like saying to your mind that you are going to be going hungry or are going without. Also due to the fact that you cut your calories in the past is going to make that part of your mind put up that protection barrier. It would be better if you just said to yourself that you are eating healthily. You are then sending the message to your brain that you are still eating and that part of the brain does not have to protect you from starvation.

You also want to create a self-image of a person you does not have any weight issues. A really useful technique that you can use to do this is just before you go to sleep when you have your eyes closed. Say the following suggestion to yourself silently inside your mind. "Everyday in every way I am getting better and better". Now if you just said that to yourself then a part of your mind may say rubbish. So in order to give that suggestion power, imagine yourself in a situation as if you were getting better and better. Maybe you could imagine yourself having to put a belt on because your jeans are getting loose.

Repeat this another 10 times either using the same mental movie or different mental movies. A really good mental movie that you can make is to imagine yourself 6 months from now having a conversation with a person who is telling you about a problem that they have which was similar to the problem that you had. You then imagine telling that person what you did in order to overcome this problem.
