Definition of "Professional"

Alright, long story short, I come back here, and notice an unnamed article stickied. Some of the information provided in it is wrong. However, I'm not going to mention it, because I know I'll get a horde of 'professionals' jumping down my throat.

Which brings me to my question; by 'professional', do we merely mean someone who has passed the state trainer exam, which includes information on muscle groups and such, but does not encompass everything one could know on matters of exercise and nutrition?

Do we mean someone who has been simply hired by a gym to help people with their exercise, and have no other qualifications other than a position?

Or do we mean someone who has majored in exercise science and/or clinical nutrition in college, and who may or may not be currently employed by a hospital, doctor's office, or other professional facility?

Just curious.

First off their is no need to tip toe or walk on broken glass here. If you have a problem with something you should say so. There is nothing wrong with debate. The only thing I personally discourage is totally derailing an already confused persons thread with bickering. State your problem, I am sure you will be provided with an answer to your objections.

Technically a professional is someone who gets paid, that is it. So any run of the mill personal trainer who gets paid to train people is considered a professional.

However, from your list you obviously lack the understanding of what exactly is what.

There are different degrees of Fitness and Health Professionals. Ranging from weekend cert Personal Trainers to Ph.D's in various fields of science and movement. That being said, a piece of paper is truly irrelevant. I have meet doctors that were complete morons and uncertified enthusiasts who could wipe the floor with those who have a 4 year degree.

I am figuring that you have a problem with those of us who have deemed ourselves professionals and are asking for our credentials?

To the best of my knowledge there are only 3 certified trainers on this board that post on a regular basis.

Myself, Tony, and Steve.

If there is a question you have for any of us, I can say for myself it is welcomed.
