Defending Diet Pills! (LONG)

Hello everyone!
I'm relatively new to this site, and I am here for weight loss support, that's just it-support. As I read over different posts from people who are looking for weight-loss information, I see that a lot of the advice is from well-meaning and supportive successful "losers," or bodybuilders, which is excellent because I'd like to hear advice from people who know what they're talking about and have the physique to prove it.

Now, I am a fan of diet pills and I will get to why in a moment. My rant is this. When I come to a diet pill thread I want it to be from a person WHO HAS TRIED THE SUPPLEMENT WROTE or about recalls or whatever, I WANT TO HEAR A REVIEW!

Instead, I read some one-sentenced answers from the people who don't really know about it and about THIRTY brusque or downright RUDE answers from people who have the "BIAS BLINDERS" on and are giving the demeaning speech about how: 1."If you don't change your diet, diet pills won't do anything!" 2."It's all about Marketing, and you're playing into their hands." 3: "Diet pills don't won't for fat loss, only diet and exercise will!" 4."No pills could help you lose weight, otherwise everyone would buy it!"
Well, you know what folks? Here's MY rude answer! THANK YOU BUT MANY PEOPLE WHO USE DIET PILLS KNOW THAT!! Just MAYBE they use them because their APPETITE gets SUPRESSED!!! Or they get the extra boost they need from the caffiene! It KILLS me because the first people who have a snappy opinion have 1."Are so against the supplements that they never have nor never will try them. 2."Think they know exactly what everyone's intentions are for using them."

I use diet pills because guess what? Like many overweight people I need that extra bit of self-control when it comes to eating, and in my experience I have had my appetite sucessfully supressed! I don't expect 50lbs. to drop off in a week or to get the advertised results. And when I am looking for a review on them, or a thread with a question about them just as with weight loss advice, I want to hear info from the people who have EXPERIENCE with them, good or bad. Not the OPINION of someone who's never tried it.

I enjoy this site, but it gives me great pause to see how many rude posts that have been around, especially within the areas that I am interested in. This site IS about support right? Not to make others feel bad or dumb about their questions? Because I've been seeing otherwise.

So people who have info about diet pills, GIVE IT! And don't let these others bully you out of doing so! I want to hear some INFO! Thanx!;) ;) :p

the only consern i have about diet pills are that ive heard some pills only make you loose water weight and such. and if you are on a pill that makes you not want to eat so much, what about when you get off that pill? you would have to be on the pill for the rest of your life :S

The term, 'Diet pills' means next to nothing to anyone. If you're curious about what supplements will help you burn fat, then ask. But they're so many different types of pills that claim to help, and some that actually do, that you need to be a little more specific as to what you're referring to, or what you want.

And understand that a lot of people come here assuming that a supplement is magic and will do the work for them, you left a lot of room for interpretation in your other thread, so it was hard to tell. Don't get the wrong idea, I've yet to meet someone on here that was just mean..

**I'm late, but here!**

*ahem* Not to sound combative mreik, but I beg to differ. Diet pills mean wonders to many. And I am not asking a question in this thread, I am making a statement. There should not have been much room for interpretation because none was necessary.

The people who do believe that a supplement is a "wonder drug" for weight-loss, may want a little feedback and education before downing one. I have taken notice on this forum that many people storm into a thread wth flippant remarks and answers when it comes to diet supplements. Even your comment of "Diet pills' means next to nothing to anyone," was not a statement of empathy, but rather casualty, with a generalization. Of course "diet pills" mean something to someone! If they come here wanting their beliefs confirmed or denied, they want to hear it from those who've tried them, and are saying "Hey! This is crap, don't bother, or hey, it curbed my appetite!"

The only point that I've been trying to make is that people who have diet supplement information appear reluctant to give commentary because there is typically someone with a snap remark within the thread. SAVE IT! I'm not going into threads that I don't support, and make smart comments while people are trying to get info! That's just rude.

**Game on!!** :D

If diet pills are so miraculous, why is 60% of America obese?

pills are a stop gap measure. if you don't have the willpower and motivation to change your lifestyle, you can use pills for a short while. but if after 2 months, you still lack motivation and willpower, then you're just becoming a diet pill addict.

NOTHING can replace willpower, proper eating, and exercise.

NOTHING.

While I agree the pills may have some affects that can help short term, what the crew is saying is true. Long term weight control and management comes from a lifestyle and a commitment to it.

If you feel a pill is helping then all the power to you, the mind is part of what we are combating.

Actually a generalization would be this term you invented, 'diet pills'. There are thermogenic pills, stimulants, and other types. You're not being specific as to what you're referring to. People will take these drugs in hopes of a miracle, which is exactly why people like myself and ^^ malkore are so sensitive on the subject. And to be 100% honest, most pills that claim to help you lose weight, do not work. Some will make you lose water, but not fat, putting you at risk for dehydration, or even heat stroke.

Oh and if someone is asking a Q about something that they're taking, and I don't agree or like it, I'm going to say something, and I would expect the same from anyone and my threads. That's why they're here, for advice, by sheltering people from the truth about diet pills or anything else, or letting them only hear the good you're only doing them harm.

I think Malkore put it best: there are more diet pills than ever, but people are fatter than ever. Now, this is correlative and not causal, I know, but here are my thoughts.

I sell diet pills, it's one part of what I do, and I wouldn't sell them if I didn't think they helped. You're right, they do HELP. The point that a lot of these forum users are making is that while they help, definitely with extremely overweight people, we encourage losing weight through adopting a healthy lifestyle so that you're primed for the rest of your life and you can mentally train yourself out of some bad habits.

My main fear is that people may begin to use diet pills as a crutch or excuse for not eating healthy and exercising. True - there are many of us (and all of us to a certain extent) who can't control our cravings. Some of us, it's so bad - and through no fault of their own - it's literally a monumental task not to eat.

I do know people who take diet pills to also maintain. Thin people who don't need to lose a ton of weight, but who take diet pills so that they stay cut and can live a slightly more relaxed lifestyle. For them, $35 / mo for a bottle of pills is worth it to them to be able to eat pizza from time to time. Is that wrong? I don't think so, if that's what it's worth to them.

There are benefits to taking diet pills, but because the average new person we get on the forums isn't necessarily looking for the "work hard and live right" road, we tend to discourage their use.

Kinda' what Mreik was sayin'...I get guys/gals that come into the shop all the time wanting 'diet pills.' My first question is "what do you want them for? Fat burning, appetite supressant, energy, etc." Different combinations of ingredients will give you different effects and everyone is looking for something a bit different.

I don't remember who said it but it went something along the lines of this "every truck driver is on ephedra but I've yet to see a ripped truck driver."

And sadly a lot of misinformed individuals do look at 'diet pills' as a magic pill. I've heard more times than I care to count that "I want a pill I can take and not have to really worry about my diet and exercise." Or the new thing is "I want a carb/fat blocker so I can eat what I want and not get fat."

I don't write reviews on products unless asked to because I've tried A LOT of different stuff and it would be to time consuming for me to sit down and rehash my experience(s) with X supplement. And actually, I spend most of time with stuff like glucosamine, wheat grass capsules, MSM, omega 3s, etc. (I think this goes for a quite a few others on here also).

The other thing is that a lot of supplements have been asked about on here and as you search you will prob find a few that you have questions about...if you have new questions about something, then ask.

I might be one of the ones that's short with my answers on certain things but it's because I've more than likely tried it or tried something identical to it and if I say "it sucks" it's because I and others who have tried it had no results with it...so I don't need to write a long winded reply other than "it sucks or it doesn't do what it says."

Keep in mind that I work with a lot of supplement companies and sell a lot of products and these supplement companies like to send me stuff to "test drive" so I've taken a lot of stuff or have had experience with a lot of different companies. A few of us are in teh same boat with me.

I look at being mean and being to the point as completely different.
"Gawd you're stupid d00d, that supplement sucks...yer retarded for taking it" is mean.

"That supplement sucked, it didn't work, don't waste your money" is honest and to the point without being mean or rude.
