Decreasing Upper Stomach Fat

Heya,

I posted earlier last week tuesday about diets, toning and losing FAT weight. At that time I was 134 pounds. I'll update my situation later on this topic... but right now my MAIN concern is about decreasing upper stomach fat.

I have a friend who weights 136 pounds and is 5'7" - she's got gorgeous upper stomach abs and well no visible fat there. I've known her for a while and she's a very honest person. Her calorie intake is around 1500 and she doesn't work out. She said she has tried sit-ups but quit shortly after - she did do a lot of walking in the summer (like myself). Since we're both in the same major, have jobs and carry on the household duties joining a gym would be like killing ourselves (at least until May) and walking outside for more than 5 minutes = freeze to death. I am still trying to figure out how she got them. Maybe her weight is mainly muscle?

I always thought that losing upper stomach fat was harder than bottom - but my brothers say it's really easy losing upper stomach fat.....

My goal is to lose fat there THEN work on HEAVY abs exercises for muscles (I have a lot less fat in my lower stomach than upper stomach) - I do exercises (crunches without weights, sit-ups - nothing hard until I get rid of more fat)... so how much body fat should I be at in order to achieve this? Or maybe how should I tackle this issue

Me = Right now I'm at a 1400 or LESS calories a day with LOTS of fruits and veggies (a fruit each 2 hours to increase my metabolish?). I normally bike at home - I biked a few times in the past week but I only managed around 2000 calories in total (didn't do as much biking as I liked because I had a major exam yesterday, quiz tomorrow, presentation monday etc). Yesterday I weighed myself and SOMEHOW it was at 128.8 pounds (same scale...).... I'm thinking maybe I didn't have much water in my system BUT that day before weighing myself I had 2 apples, 1 cup of cereal + milk, 500 ml of green tea, 1 cup of coffee and 1 cup of water. So if I round it up let's say I'm at 130 pounds... does this make any sense???

EDITING: Forgot to mention I'm 5'4" and a half (yes exactly between 5'4" and 5'5")

Sure it does... first off, if you just recently cleaned up your diet, many things will change, especially losing water weight (less sodium intake plus increased water intake will flush out the system nicely). So, yes it is very possible.

I would also suggest you not compare yourself to your friend but rather your own progress. You don't have her genes and you can't change that. However, you can take pictures of yourself weekly or biweekly... then look back. It's just a smart way to do it and you won't kill yourself mentally over it.

You know if you work the abs while you lose the fat, when the fat is gone, the abs will be there. :)

Like Darth said, you have to go with your build. I would like an hour glass figure, but I have a big waist. Not due to the fat it is just always been big. But keep doing cardio, that is the only way to melt that stubborn tummy fat away.

^You make a good point - I may start semi-heavy abs exercises then and it'll help burn fat anywayz.

I'm losing weight and I do notice this in my thighs (bigger gap between my thighs + less touchy when I walk), and at my love handles (also doing an exercse there) and I am happy about this. I have also noticed that I am losing some fat in my chest (okay I know I may sound childish but as a woman it is important to me) - I am okay with this to a certain extent.

However, my upper stomach remains the same - I am worried about this. I KNOW it takes a while to see progress. My clothes are looking terrible because of the ratio change. But right now I am thinking what if this upper stomach height is genetic? And is it worth to lose my chest for 1 inch of fat?

Honestly, I don't know how this plays out to be (as in how much chest fat you would lose before you see a change in stomach) - can a women who has experience in this tell me more about this or what I could relatively expect?

I know this is really sounding childish - I will continue to work on my losing fat - I just need to know how much I am risking.

Again, it doesn't come off in equal amounts at equal areas. It's unfortunate that some people get discourage because of this, but stomach is usually the LAST to go because its the first place people put it (think of guys who look fairly normal but have that gut, thats the beginning of it going everywhere!).

Still, don't get discourage because you are seeing it go in other places and let that be the motivation to remind you that it will come off where you want it eventually with all the hard work!
