Dead lifting and Squatting barefoot.

I'm thinking about giving it a shot. I was born without shoes. Why should I do the most basic/best of lifts with shoes?

Does anybody already do this?

It's pretty common, actually, especially with the barefoot shoes trending. It's not the best thing to do if you're a competitive weight lifter, as you would then want the weightlifting shoes with the heel lift in order to receive extra stability. But if you're using the barbell for fitness, then going barefoot will actually be better, as you're stabilizer muscles will have to fire. It may also help lengthen your calf muscles since you're heel will be in contact with the floor.

Keep in mind that not everyone is able to do barefoot squats, though. If you don't have the calf flexibility already to do a squat without your heels lifting off the ground when you're barefoot, then take some precautions and ease yourself in being able to maintain that contact.

There's only one reason I don't regularly squat or deadlift barefoot, and it's because I don't get to compete barefoot. I did barefoot deadlifting last week, and it was the most delightful deadlifting experience I've had in months.

I train either barefoot or in gymnastics shoes. I know the shoes aren't official standard etc. but they have solid plastic soles a few mm thick so are close to it. Bonus being gymnastic shoes cost about £3 a set lifting shoes upward of £50, difference is not much.
I find it insane that so many weight train in trainers designed for running etc. Damaging to the shoe and the training. And yes I did used to do it before I realised that it was costing me hundreds a year in damaged footwear.

The way everybody is talking this up makes me feel like I'm going to see some insane gains in a couple weeks of doing it :D

You may gain some looks of this guy is insane too!
Definately feels better and more stable.
