Dance Club

I thought we could make a club for those who dance, or would like to dance, to loose weight. I felt it was one of the most fun and easiest to do without having to MAKE yourself do it... Plus, it helps you get better at dancing for when you loose weight and want to go to a hot dance club. ^.^

My course of action is Belly Dancing and Hip-Hop, I sometimes Rave, too.

Whoop whoop! Of course I'm here! I belly dance... am interested in other forms too...

I made a suggestion in the dance challenge thread that may be more applicable here. That is to share moves and tips and talk about different styles and music...

That is what I was hoping to do, I think it'll help whoever dances to have people they can talk to. I know it helps me when my boyfriend talks to me, sometimes he'll ask me to show him some of what I've learned.

Two hours of dancing and about a half hour of cooling down sways and stretches. WHOO! Feel great, tired but great, maybe ready to jump back into it later on, still got plenty of hours to do stuff. I have a list on YouTube. Its mostly upbeat rock or stuff that makes me really move, like Shakira. I find that the more upbeat and loud, the more I can dance, and yes, I belly danced a little over an hour of that dancing, probably close to an hour and a half. The words make it easier, as I can add the meaning or emotion of the words to my dancing. I think I'm gonna do some Tae Bo today. Seems like it will fit... Mmm, gonna go eat, sit and play with the kittens, and new cat (Stealth is so wonderful ^.^ Healthily fat... Niece gave him to me.) so that I can relax a bit, then I'm gonna jump into stretches, maybe turn that into Tae Bo.

Yeah, he was her friend's cat, so Stealth is fixed, got all his shots, I think he has a chip, only problem is he has an old injury that is a broken foot, so perma-limp... He's started playing with the kittens so its cool, oh sadly I never got that Tae Bo in, ate too much Chicken N Dumplings. Have fun at class! I wish I could be in a class, but I just started working last month, and haven't saved up much yet.

I tap dance. I have no idea how many calories that burns but I've done it since I was 6 and I love it! I wanted to be a tap teacher for a long time. Classes run with the school year so I'm waiting for them to start again. It's a lot more fun than working out.

Oooo i like this thread alot! :D

i just bought tons of new dvd's, all involving some sort of dance: bellydance, club dance, ballet, and latin. can't wait to get them!

I'm seriously considering becoming a professional belly dancer and eventually a teacher.... I have found my passion!!!

omg that's fantastic :D
i studied ballet and modern yrs ago, and wanted something just as challenging but not as demanding as them. so i found a class and ended up really loving it (not to mention what a great workout it turned out to be!).

i now have a few bellydance dvd's by Neon, and i'm a total fan of Didem (myspace.com/didem_kinali)! how long have you been doing it?

:)

Hehe, only a few months... I realise I have a few YEARS (like 10) til I can really call myself a pro dancer or teacher, but man, am I LOVING the journey!!!

I'm thinking of getting some dvds... got one but it's like belly dance aerobics... great instead of boring cardio workouts tho!

I'll check out Didem. I would say Rachel Brice is the most intriguing dancer I've seen... not quite the style I'd like to dance, but man her body can do some crazy things!!!

hmm...she's more of a slow sensual type bellydancer. i also just found 'Maria Shashkova' (youtube.com/watch?v=eGJ8RJmBxVY&feature=related) - amazing shimmying w/layering!

so where will you be teaching? is it fulltime too? i'm such a beginner that i think right now i get easily frustrated especially when i can't do even the simplest moves lol. but i'm working at it....slowly :)

ah, these are merely dreams right now.

Lol, I also feel like crying when I can't get a move or some choreography, hehe.

I would really like to aim for more practise sessions between my 2 usual classes.

Maybe we can use this thread to set and track our dancing goals?

I would like to practise my dancing 6 days a week ultimately... this includes isolations, drills, floorwork, dances (choreographed pieces), finger symbals, and new styles... I think I'll figure out a schedule and stick it up here... then I'll report back on my progress!!!

yea i know what you mean. i just saw this Maria actually giving a class that's more technical, and wish that mine was more like the way i studied in my ballet and modern classes (youtube.com/watch?v=91mpf8ywLfI&feature=related). maybe i'll just have to go look for some more in my area.

but yea - let's! right now i just have my bellydance dvd's, but i'd love to post and record our progress :D

I love bellydance! I was taking bellydance lessons for about a year, but had to stop taking them for a while. Wasn't getting enough of a 'workout' with the class, even with supplementing it with the DVDs I do at home. Plus the instructor had tried pressuring me to perform... I'm not ready to yet. I love sword dancing!

I took ballet for 6 years when I was a kid. The benefit now is I still remember some of the basic moves, and incorporate them into my workout.

Whenever I get the chance I like to go dancing. Not nearly as much as I'd like, but I can keep up with the 20-somethings.

I'm a big fan of Michelle Joyce, Rachel Bryce, Sharon Kihara and Jenna. There's a troupe out here in the bay area called Ultra Gypsy... they're such wonderful and beautiful dancers.

Probably sticking to DVDs for now, and using the isolations as part of my workouts, but hopefully I'll start working on choreography again too.

that's fantastic! you should try searching on youtube for them or something. one of the troupes i liked alot was the 'bollywood' (i think in LA) - truly amazing bellydances! also, there's several dvd's that are put out by IAMED (bellydance.org and youtube.com/bellydancevideos to preview their dvd's) - i especially like Sadie, Didem, and Asena, and now Maria Shashkova.

i wish i could get back to taking classes tho, but i just don't have the time. so for me it'll have to be the dvd's for a while still.

:)

Belly dance is SUCH a vast dance.... in diversity I mean, so many styles!
