damn schools

so apparently when it gets below 30 degrees outside the schools cancel recess. WTF? One of the only times the kids can run around outside during the day this time of year. But oh those poor kids might get cold.

this pisses me off. We were finally starting to make progress with my oldest son by keeping him active and keeping his diet in check. Now he pretty much sits inside all day. We are raising a generation of softies if kids can't go out in the cold.

Granted I can take my kids outdoors when I get home from work after dark. But this is crap. First schools cancel the presidential fitness program, and now they cancel recess because of the cold.

I'm going to call the school and complain. Also my oldest does workout with me on occasion. So I'm going to have to push him a bit harder and somehow make working out with dad more fun.

.............as you were

I hear ya. I don't have kids, but I'd prolly be pissed too. Everything about newer generations just gets babied. It's bad enough that "toys" these days are PS3s, XBox, Nintendo DS and Wii. Hell, playgrounds aren't what they used to be when I was a kid, because oh no, little Billy might fall and cut himself. Jesus, isn't that part of growing up?

Imagine if your kid never learned that cold is cold.. You actually have to learn some things the hard way, you need the experience of cold, maybe even the consequences of getting a cold, before you truly learn to put on clothes when you go out in the cold.

You also need to learn that falling hurts, if you don't, then when you enter the real world you won't be afraid of falling, and your body will probably not have developed the proper reactions it needs in order to prevent falling. So yeah, overprotecting the kids isn't a good idea.

totally. These kids are going to be so soft. When are kids allowed to be kids anymore? When I was a kid we went out for recess no matter how cold it was. But then again our parents had enough sense to dress us properly for the weather.

My view is hot or cold, fresh air is the best thing for you. Once in a while you have to get out of the artificial environment that is our homes, schools and workplaces.

Every generation I see is just a weaker, less intelligent, less imaginative version of the last.

Buy your boy a Rocky box set and show him how real men behave; you don’t want him having role models like Justin Timberfake

Wow, that is bs. So what do they do instead during recess?

play board games or legos or some **** like that.

I called the school and I guess parents have complained about letting kids out in the cold. I'd like to have a few words with these parents.

Omg....that reminds me of this family that I nanny for. The mom told me not to open the windows on a 60 degree day cause the kids will catch a cold. Yeeeaaahhh, right. The dad is a doctor too!

Are they German? Most Germans don't like drafts. Seriously (I'm half German). When I lived in Germany, no Germans ever left their windows open, no matter what the temperature.

They thought I was going to die because I left my bedroom window open in the winter time. Apparently, drafts kill you :D

You've got to be kidding! :D

I thought it got pretty hot and humid in Illinois in the summer ... well, you know what they say about wet hair ... "You'll get pneumonia if you sit around with wet hair." Yeah, a nurse said that to me in the hospital a few years ago. I said "well, I should have been dead a long time ago then. I must be a superhuman." :p

Yup, hot as **** in the summer here in Illinois.

The mom used to be a nurse as well. Oh did I mention they feed their kids garbage? Pop tarts for breakfast, eggos for lunch and frozen nuggest with a side of fruit for dinner.

I 2nd that.

Post away bro!

true guess thats never stopped me before. LOL

I was just going to make references to spices, party stores, and magic carpets.
