hey cynthia. welcome to the forum. you have definately come to the right place.
Age works against you in a number of ways:
1) metabolism slows down
2) activitely level usually decreases as you are no longer forced to take gym class
3) eating habits become lazier (ignoring the days in college)
Weighing yourself is the worse thing you can do for losing weight. You need to take body measurements around key areas ... chest, thighs, hips, biceps, etc. Why? Mainly because every person is different in body type, bone mass, etc. You don't want a standard scale to be measured against ... it IS only depressing ... even for people that are in great shape. But, also because one of the most important fat burners your body has weighs a lot more than fat ...
Muscle! You need to have a weight training program to help with your weight loss. But, since muscle weighs twice as much as fat, you may find yourself gaining weight (especially in the beginning) when you are getting fitter in every dimension (or less obvious, gaining weight but dimensions staying the same).
... how's that for a "welcome"
