Cycling helping at all?

Hey guys hows it going this is my first post on here, you guys seem like a good bunch so ill throw one at you. I'm 17.5 stone thats 245 pounds and I'm 6 foot 1" so yes, I am a big lad, I've been on and off my bike the past year but got into it too late for it to make much of a difference last year, I'm a keen cyclist and im on it everyday at least 4 miles sometimes 8 and 10+ if its a day off work. What I'm asking is, will this cycling get rid of my gut as it's the only thing that makes me overweight, my legs are all muscle and my arms are big from playing drums all my life. Will this amount of cycling tone my gut down or will I have to start up running too?

Cheers

It doesn't really matter what form of cardio you're getting as long you're doing it in a way that you're burning enough calories.

Running tends to burn more calories per minute than cycling. However, people normally are able to and tend to cycle for longer durations, thus, burning more calories overall.

Hi, I find running very helpful, I don't do it everyday as it might be too stressful on my knees but I think that as long as you can do med to high intensity cardio 4-5 times a week WITH proper nutrition then you're bound to see results.

It would be unnecessary. Try to keep cycling as long as you can. Do not create any extra pressure on your leg in order burning more calories.

It is advisable that you should drink lots of water before cycling. It would supply enough water into your muscle. Don't forget getting healthy food.

Exactly this ^^^

I'll add just a little to it. If weight reduction is your goal, concentrate on your activities in the kitchen.

You can’t spot train. Neither cycling nor running will directly affect the abs but either will burn calories, which will reduce overall weight (holding everything else constant).

The cycling you are putting in is a start I suppose. Measure it in time rather than miles though. It doesn’t say much about where you are going fitness wise when you tell me about miles. I need info on time and effort. Make those rides at least an hr. Warm up with an easy steady spin for at least 10 minutes, work out doing whatever work out is planned for that day, then do a cool down of at least 10 minutes. Don’t go too hard too much but make steady improvements towards distance and pace. I assume it’s your lungs that are limiting you right now (rather than your legs), there are things to say about that but too much to talk about.

Running may be a good supplement and have a good effect if you mix in a couple runs/week. Just be careful with it.

Lastly, drums make people’s arms big? Are you weighting the sticks or something?

Best of luck.
