Hi there folks

first of all let me tell you where i have been and whats going on
i used to be in excess of 33 Stones. I am now down to 15 St 2 Lbs
i go to gym i do mixed martial arts and i have a high protein low carb diet

i am trying to get to 14 St and this last 1.2 St is coming off slow. Now i do expect this as it is usually what happens when you are near your target/ideal weight.

someone said to me that if i go to gym too much it can affect my weight loss? could this be correct?

so far i go 3 times a week maybe even more. i do a 10 - 20 min warm up on the rowing machine then i do a 35 min work out on the x trainer.

should this be enough ? can i go too often?

let me know your thoughts guys

thanks in advance

I'm sorry but whoever told you told you this is very uneducated & really has no idea about weight loss and fitness.

You are always going to be heavier if you work out because muscle weighs 3 x more than fat but you at least you will be toned and not wobbly. Another added bonus with having muscles is they rev up your metabolism. So you after a weights session you will burn calories for a few hours afterwards - pretty good huh?

I get too focussed on the numbers on the scales myself and compare my weight to those who don't work out forgetting about the added benefits of exercise i.e toning, increased metabolic rate, increased endorphins and self esteem.

it was just from some research on the net - i do not touch weights the now . i only do a cardio workout.

so i can go to gym more than 3 times a week doing a cardio workout?
should i do weights just on low reps ? just enough but not enough to build muscle?

Well I took a peek at your profile and saw that you are a guy... Just a heads up, girls love love muscles so don't give up the weights!

Why don't you try focussing on your measurements rather than numbers on the scales? Your numbers might be higher but you are going to look and feel better with a bit of muscle mass.

My trainer was getting me to do higher reps with a lighter weight so I didn't bulk up but I'm female and our bodies are different.

the only reason i am lookin at the numbers is just now i have a big massive flap of skin. i am going to get a apronectomy the skin removed on the NHS but i have to be at 14 stone for that to get done hence the reason of the numbers

but i can go to the gym more than 3 times a week doing cardio and this will not slow down any weight loss?

I'm so sorry, I didn't realise there was a medical reason why you need to lose weight, my bad.

Not that I'm an expert but I think cardio would also increase muscle mass as you are still using muscles. Can you speak to your doctor about this? They should be promoting exercise for it's long term positive benefits rather than discouraging it.

Well done for having lost so much weight. May I ask why you gained so much in the first place (no need to answer this if you feel it too private).

not at all only too happy

when at secondary school i got free dinners so i spent my money on junk after it then at college it was just drinking what i wanted and eating what i wanted - the only advice my Dr gave was get close to 14 stone and they will refer me to get the operation

if your sayin cardio will build mass i am as well doing some weights then because weight workout burns more cals and also burns for longer after the workout than just a cardio ??

Well it sounds like your college days were lots of fun!

I really suggest speaking to your doctor about this or seek advice from someone with experience like a trainer. Are you in a position to enlist the help of a trainer/diet coach?

You could go on those dreadful shakes that do more harm than good in order to get the weight down but this isn't really a long term solution (FYI a dietician told me that shakes work because the body starts eating its own muscle once deprived of carbohydrates, this then screws up your metabolism by 30pc and you also lose bone density.

see the diet is not the prob. really there is no problem. its just cos i am so close to my ideal weight that its slowing down. i read up this is supposed to happen. Its just i wanted to clear this myth about going to the gym too much can slow down fat loss and weight loss.

i am on the low carb diet i take shakes but its one protein shake a day not meal replacment . it was my gym instructor who gave me it .

i just wish the weight loss was what it was like before i got to near 15 but thats the only thing i worry about is that it is slow but as i said it is because its close to my ideal weight

so just wanted to see about that myth??
