Hello friend,

I was wondering if you could shed some light on my current situation. Ideally, I would like to be 200lbs with 7% body fat. Is this goal physically attainable? If not, what should my target weight be? Thank you in advance!

What your target weight should be is impossible to answer for anyone where.

you've listed NO real info about yourself...

Don't obsess over getting to a specific number on a scale - go by what you're seeing in the mirror, how your clothes are fitting, how you feel after walking up 3 flights of stairs...

I'm with Mal.

Just start. Where the journey takes you is going to be dictated more by your genetics than anything else. Assure a balanced exercise program and diet that is calorically and macronutrient controlled and you'll be well on your way.

If it's of any interest to you, to find out how much fat you'd have to lose to reach your ideal body fat, this forumula is handy:

TBW - (TBW x BF%/100) / (1 - desired BF%/100)

I currently weigh 230, with 18% bodyfat. I am 6'1" and have trained in the past with weights.

Steve, that formula leaves me with 44 lbs to lose... It doesn't seem feasible.

Here is the formula I used, let me know what you think.

Total body weight multiplied by my current BF% as a percentile (230*.18) which = 44.1lbs (Just as your original formula)

Multipled by the PROPORTION of that fat I want to lose (11 of the 18 fat percentage points, which equals roughly 60% of my total fat)

which = 25.3lbs

Entered Into Excel
=SUM((230*(18/100))*(11/18))

So then at 230lbs, I subtract 25, leaving me with 205lbs. I figured a 5 lb leeway would suffice. At this weight, I should be 7% fat, unless I'm missing something.

Any input would be appreciated.

An easier way of working out the formula, which I suppose is similar to what Steve posted, is this:

Target Weight = LBM divided by 1 - desired bf as a decimal

If you're currently 18% bf that means you're carrying 188.6 lbs of lean.

So then 188.6 divided by .93 (1 - .7) = 202.79 lbs.

So yeah, you're in the range you want.

Doable?

Well, you're 6'1" so it's entirely feasible if you've got the drive.

But life ain't much fun when you're living in single digit body fat numbers.

You'll always be hungry for one thing and having to watch what you eat.

Again, the numbers above are just a mathematical exercise to give you a range to shoot for.
