Weight-Loss

Hi all,

I have been eatng really poorly for the last few weeks. I haven't gained much weight but I feel all bound up. I was depressed and sick (put me in the hospital) and kept looking for comfort food in my time of need.

Now I am feeling much better and am ready to go back to the gym.

My question is about fasting. Mind you, I have fasted for 4-5 days on nothing other than a few horrible shakes per day under the supervision of a nutritionist. I can no longer afford to use a nutritinist, so I'm here to ask all of you nice people for your thoughts.

I'm planning to fast for 2 days in an effort to rid myself of this bogged down, gross feeling in my stomAch. My plan is to drink plenty of water and drink protein shakes with high fiber and nutrients. Also I would be ingesting a multivitamin daily. I will be consuming roughly 800 calories with barely any solids. How does that sound to flush out my system and stay healthy doing so?

Thanks.

I am not a big believer of fasting. I tihnk you'd get better results and feel better if you focused on a few days of really clean eating ... lots of veggies, fruit, lean proteins, and healthy liquids (water, tea, etc.), in reasonable quantities.

I find that when I have a day where I've overindulged on the junk and have that bloated, weighed down feeling, that being super healthy the next few days helps a lot.

What a great article. I've bookmarked it for future threads.

I *loved* the last paragraph:

In the world of fitness, recommendations for improving performance and body composition often gain blind acceptance despite a dearth of objective data. This is common in a field where high hopes and obsessive-compulsive tendencies are united with false appeals and incomplete information. In order to be proven effective beyond the mere power of suggestion, supposed truths must be put through the crucible of science. Drawing conclusions from baseless assumptions is a good way to get nowhere - fast.

Kara, you'd enjoy Alan's research review he puts out monthly. It's 10 bucks per month and worth every penny. If you have the time to read a monthly research review... I'd highly recommend it.

Here is the first issue he put out over a year ago which he makes free to the public. Each issue follows a very similar layout.

Thanks for the article, steve. Really interesting.
