Cruches???

I have a question about crunches/sit-ups. Is it better to lose weight/fat and then work on your abs or should you be doing crunches and such right now. I'm just not sure how effective it is right now since I have so much weight/fat around them that when I do the exercises I can't see the results and I'm wondering if it's a waste of time right now. Any advice is appreciated.

Unfortunately you cannot spot reduce. You need to loose fat all over your body to see results. You should start adding crunches or ab routines into your workout but until you maintain a healthy life style and eat right you would not see any results.

I am like you; I have all my fat around my belly; but for the first time in my life I have began to see definition of my abs and this did not happen overnight; it took 45 pounds of weight loss; so as you loose fat all over everything and everypart of your body trims down.

Also what I find reallly helps me is eliminating all breads, pastas and processed foods.

No exercise where you're actually doing serious work is a waste of time. If you are able to, by all means, go ahead and do them now. BUT, I would recommend doing them with the idea that you are building strength and core stability and better posture rather than the hopes of one day having a 6-pack.

I agree with Corndoggy. It is not negative to do any exercise, but know what the results will be. Everyone has a six pack (or more), but unless you burn the fat that's covering it, it won't show. And just like the other person said, you can't spot reduce. You have to lose it all over.

Working out your abs is good for your posture though, and better posture often makes you look slimmer.
