Crazy Idea?????

Ok, heres my idea, please tell me if you think i'm crazy! lol

I am going into business selling cheesecakes, (i get my license on friday!!) anyways, I was laying in bed, unable to sleep (its 1:30 now..ouch!) anyways, I had this idea! What If I were to make a pink cheesecake and pipe on the top of each slice, a little pink ribbon (in frosting of course) and then I could donate half my profit to the Susan Koehman foundation for breast cancer awareness.

I know some people will say "its a nice thought" but do you think it would sell??

the susan komen foundation is a great cause... and i'd love to see them get as much money as possible have a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime... but...

I've been to a number of benefits and such over the years, and I've gotten my share of pink ribbon cookies. I don't believe I've ever eaten one of those cookies, they're cute and stuff, but it usually goes into the goodie bag and will stay until it gets stale and tossed out...

What's the point ofthat comment?

Cheesecake... mmmm.. that's meant to be eaten... it's just wrong for it to be a kitschy souvenier. For me to buy cheesecake, i'm buying it because it tastes amazing... whatever cause it's supporting isn't going to be a factor in my decision.

I think it might be an seller for a benefit for the komen foundation.. to be served tothe guests... but i personally wouldn't buy it specifically for a dinner party I was hosting just because it had the pink ribbons on it... i wouldn't not buy it for that reason ... but given the choice of the pink ribbon and say a strawberry cheesecake... i'm going with strawberry :D

I appreciate your comments Mal. I have said it myself a thousand times, if you are going to ask people's oppinions you are going to hear what you dont' want to occasionally. And you don't really feel that it was a good idea, and maybe it wasn't...who knows, lol. What sounds good at 2 am sometimes doesnt' sound good the next day..although I'm still considering putting it on my menu.

Anyways, but I did want to mention how you wrote "it's just wrong for it to be a kitschy souvenier" I think that was a little off. I'm certainly doing nothing "wrong" by it. My aunt died of breast cancer and I thought by doing this, I could be honoring her.

I'm just one opinion... :D take it for whatever it's worth...

Every female relative of mine has died from either breast or ovarian cancer... So I fully support the cause, heck the sneakers on my feet have little pink ribbons on them.. :D

I dunno- maybe the pink ribbon cheesecake would be a big seller...

Did some googling on it.. to see if it's been done before and well - the idea is pretty fresh... so you might be on to something and i'll just shut up :D

there's a in Albany that has on their menu...
Slice of Hope - Purchase a slice of Hope - Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake, for dessert and $2.00 will be donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

It's be interesting to know how their sales were and what their donation was

I think it's a wonderful idea. Like Mal said, it is a great cause. I'm sure people would buy it, in my experience if people get something in return for a great cause they are more prone to doing so.

Anything to do with fighting cancer I am all for. I know I'd buy one if I was in your neck of the woods. Best of luck to you in your new business!

Personally.. if I had my choice of two pieces of cheesecake with equal yumminess but one will have part of the profit going to such a great things as finding a cure for cancer... then I'd go for the cheesecake with a cause. My family also has a cancer history and I figure if they can find a cure for one - it will have a domio effect on other cancers too.

But the pink ribbon can be gimmicky.. so that cake better have someting more going for it than just a plain slice with little pink ribbon. Know what I mean? Great idea.. just needs some tweeking. :D

Thanks everyone :D I think it'll be cute!

I am going to name my business....

A Taste of Heaven
Gourmet Cheesecakes

Thanks Pequin...do you have any suggestions?? *deep in thought*

I made one last year the turned out so yummy - white chocolate cheesecake with a raspberry swirl. Or maybe a pink chocolate swirl, flavored white chocolate with pink food coloring. Hmm.. I'll have to ponder if futher...

Edit: A Taste of Heaven - I like that! I read a book last year where the main charactor ran away to oregon and started a cheesecake bakery.. but she had some savory cheesecakes like blue cheese with bri & mushrooms.. always wanted to try a savorite cheesecake.

What if the box had the ribbon on it and the cheesecake was 'normal'. This way you could sell any kind of cheesecake (strawberry, plain etc...) for the cause and just put it into the ribbon box....I don't know.

Good luck!

I love the idea of a pink ribbon cheesecake. I'd definitely buy it, but if it were really pretty I'd be a tad bit hesitant to eat it, but I think I would.

I like Kaitie's idea of a box having the ribbon.

Either way is a very good idea. Also, 2am ideas are usually FANTASTIC ideas.

But when the day comes around, our rational brains kick in and we start thinking of reasons why it might not be a good idea. If you think its good, run with it and try it! Good luck.

The ribbon box is a great idea! You could make the ribbons buttons and attach it to the box somehow.

I think I agree with the don't just have a plain cheesecake with a frosting ribbon on it.... I would borrow the idea of writing it on your menu that you would donate $____ proceeds of the amount of purchase to this cause.... For those with more mature tastebuds I guess you can "steal" my famous cheesecake.... make a plain cheesecake and swirl in reduced port wine so it gives you the same effect as say a strawberry swirl cheesecake....delicious. Also very creative name, its funny because that is exactly what a lady said to me the other night when she tried one of my cheesecakes.."It's like tasting heaven." something along those lines.... Also though heres an idea for a name I just thought of A Slice of Heaven, because you are selling them by the slice/cake i'm assuming....who knows...food for thought :)
