Cramp! anything to help prevent it

Its a very simple question.

I swim for an hour every day, give or take 10mins.but basically my question is this, how can i prevent getting cramp!
i get it in my feet. and only in my feet when i do front crawl. thats it! if i do it slowish then i wont get it for a few lengths do it fast i could have it by the end of the first lenght... yet i am so fast and breast stroke, and i so much faster than front crawl and can really push it and dont get cramp!

i was wondering if there is anything i can to help prevent it:p

Are you getting enough potassium (eat a banana each day) and fluids? If you sweat a lot, you might have an electrolyte imbalance and that can cause cramping.

A friend used to get swimmer's cramps (his hit his feet and calves) and he said that swimming in warmer water helped him. I remember hearing that you shouldn't swim for about 30-60 minutes after eating because the swimming interferes with digestion and can cause cramps. I don't know if this is true or not, but I remember hearing it lots as a kid.

Totally unrelated to those things ^^^ but if I curl my toes on my left foot (whether/not I'm swimming), I will get a painful cramp. It's predictable. I could cause one right now if I wanted to. That started to happen after my leg healed from a torn calf muscle. So there's some sort of relationship there, but I've never been able to fix it with stretching or strengthening.

ahhh a few things made sense there thank you

first, i know when my feet are cold i get BRUTAL CRAMP! regardless of situation!

also, that i have run out of my multi vitamins about 2weeks ago! and i have been sweating alot during sleep. and i hardly ever eat fruit because the acid in fruits makes my throat go all funky... dont know why it just does. even strawberries etc... had done since i was a kid.
thank you ur post has helped me alot. thank you.

Magnesium

Hi There, you might want to start taking Magnesium Malate...its used for Muscle energy. Do a search on it - you'll find it interesting. If you take it, I would take it at night, it tends to make you sleepy!

As a swimmer for years I have had ALOT of cramp! What fixed it was adjusting my technique. Im not going to go into to much depth but you should keep your ankles looser and change the angle of your foot into relation to your lower legs.

ooo thank you. I was thinking about having some b rush up lessons, to get me back in the groove.
i would like it if you could give me some technique please. I wont take offence :)

I myself fequently get cramps in my feet, usually my right. There are a few stretches that can help, also taking potassium and drinking lots of water will help with the cramping. Staying hydrated and providing your body with the right nutrients and vitamines is one of the key goals to prevent cramps.
