Counting the Days...

Hello Everyone, my name is Olivia.

As I recal there were some questions I should ask myself before starting this diary.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
I want to loose approximately 90lbs At this time I weigh approximately 250lbs.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
I would like to loose this weight within a years time.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
I want to eat healthier, use correct portion sizes while eating, and ride my bike at least 4 days a week.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
My husband, and hopefully this board.

-- How realistic is your goal?
A little hopeful, but what are we without hope?

-- When will you start?
I'm going grocery shopping tonight, I'll start tomorrow.

So far today I::

Found this message board :)
Ate a burrito for breakfast, at some stuff grape leaves and a small greek salad for lunch, and I'll try to be healthy for dinner. I haven't gotten a chance to exercise. I am hoping to go for a walk around my neighborhood tonight with my mini-schnauzer, Berger.

I am doing this because I am sick of walking by my reflection and feeling disgusted and hopeless.

I really hope I can keep this up and that some people on this board hold me accountable.

I want to be thin for once in my life. I have a feeling there is a whole new person under there. I want to kayak, and sail, and surf, and dance. I want my husband to be overwhelmingly proud of me, and to stop worrying that I am going to die before him.

Okay, that is enough selfish rambling for today. Thanks for listening! :D

Hi!

Hello! Forget that, "I'll start tomorrow." Looks like you already started to me! That's one of the toughest parts. You outlined your plan, had what sounds like small portions for your meals today - you are on a roll. Now you just have to stick to it!

I want to lose 90 pounds, too, as of today. It was 100 when I started 28 days ago, but I weighed this morning, and moved my ticker. Woo hoo!!! So, we have the exact same amount we want to lose!

You'll find lots of support here. You can do it!

Thanks so much, good to hear encouragment already.

Congrats on the 10lbs!! That is so wonderful. :D

I love your user name - Elegance... And everything it represents.
There are a lot of supportive people on this forum, and you will do great! I found that the hardest and the most importand thing is to stick to the plan that works for you, and to be patient! But as we support each other, sticking to it becomes much easier!

Day #2

Okay, so I am doing okay.

No exercise yet except for the three flights of stairs up to my office. I haev done that twice though so it is something. At least I am resisting the temptation fo the elevator! :p

Last night my husband and I got dinner at Chili's. We both got the guiltless chicken platter. That is when I discovered that he intended to try and do this healthy thing with me. What a Shock! Later we went to Wal-Mart to buy 'healthy food'...Of course my dear husband had never thought about the immense difference between the portions we usually eat and the ones we SHOULD eat. He ended up eating two sandwiches before we went to bed. That is okay though. I know that he will get used to it, and at least they were sandwiches and not ice cream or soemthing.

I am very proud that yesterday I stuck to my goal of only drinking one soda a day. My husband and I went to see Xmen 3 and I didn't eat any popcorn or anything I just got a soda. And, I didn't get a large I got a medium. It was the best soda I have had in a long time.

So far today this is what I have consumed:::

Breakfast:
Water
1 Cup of Cereal (frosted wheaties)
1/2 cup of 2% Milk (I just can't force myself to drink less than 2%)
1 Bannana

Snack:
1/2 cup of cereal (frosted wheaties)

I PLAN to eat:

Lunch:
1 Sanwich including: Bread, Mustard, Turkey, Lettuce, and only 1 slice of cheese.
1 Bananna
Water

Snack:
Strawberries and Bannana

Dinner:
1 Chicken Breast
1 cup rice
Broccoli, Carrots, and Cauliflower
1 spoon of mayo
My one Soda

Desert:
Strawberries

I'm pretty optomistic so far. I am going to try to convince my husband to ride bikes up to the sea wall with me (I live in Galveston, texas) and if he won't we can just take Berger (My mini-schnauzer) on a really long walk.

Ug, I just wish I felt better today. I feel all blotted. :(

I'm sure it will get better though!

Thanks for listening.

Thanks so much for the encouragement!!! :D

I once read a book claled Elegance. It was really interesting and talked about old school manners and such.

I have been a singer for a long time (opera and stuff) I am not good enough to be an opera star or anything, but I have always wanted to be able to wear the clothes and play the part of an elegant diva. I think it would be so much fun to wear broad brimmed hats and retro dresses. It seems that there are very few Ladies around now-a-days, so that is what I would like to be.

Thanks again!

Well done!! You sound like you are doing great and if your husband plans to do it with you thats even better, as he will be more willing to get rid of tempting foods from your house. Keep up the great work!!!

Its great that your husband wants to do the healthy thing with you. My hubby also wanted to loose some weight and we both ate smaller portions. Of course, being that he is 6'3", he lost whatever weight he had to loose very quickly. I'm still going... But its good if you can eat the same healthy stuff, it really helps in the long run.

Looks like you did great on food! Way to go! And try using the stairs as often as you can, it can make a difference!

walking

Good for you getting in some exercise! You can walk off a burger with your Berger! :p Sorry, couldn't help myself!

I don't know why I found that so funny, but I did! :p

So, I obviously can't write on the weekends, because I only have internet access at work. So lets catch up on the weekend.

My husband and I both did really well this weekend. We mainly ate sandwiches for lunch and dinner and then a bowl of cereal for breakfast. We didn't snack a lot or anything. All weekend I only had one soda a day, but on Saturday night I did eat a small ice cream cone. I figured that wasn't that bad since I was doing so good. Sunday night my husband and I changed into some t-shirts, and low and behold they were a little looser. That was very encouraging.

Today, however has been a different story. :( So far I have drank two sodas, eaten a pack of m & m's and ate 2 tomales for lunch (however you spell it) The reason I have not done well today is because I am so darn angry!!!!

Someone stole my bike!!! I couldn't believe it! I ride my bike to work every day because I don't have a car. It is only about six blocks, but I really enjoy doing it. I lock my bike right outside the building I work in, and I can even see it from my office window. So, I know it happened between 11 and 12. When I walked out for lunch it was gone, and the lock was on the ground. I was so angry that I didn't even pick up the lock, and I walked home. When I came back the lock was gone too! It is so stupid what people will do. That bike couldn't be worth more than 15.00 at a pawn shop, and rrrrrrrrrr....it just makes me sooooo angry.

But, I think that it is stupid to let that person take the bike and my health away, so I will start anew at this moment. I will only drink water for the rest of the day, and eat a salad for dinner. Then I'll go walk off another burger with my berger ;) I just love that!!

Thanks for listening.

jerks

I am so sorry some jerk stole your bike. There is just no reason for that kind of behavior. Well, maybe this is your time to invest in a really good new bike. Maybe this is your opportunity to invest in yourself and your new healthy lifestyle. Tell yourself you are worth it, and go get yourself a better bike, a top of the line lock, and insurance against theft!

Sorry about your bike, but you are doing great! Maybe there is a new bike that you will like better out there that was just waiting for the old bike to leave. Say hi to Berger!

Sorry about the bike... I'm sorry it got stolen, even from the lock!!! I would be very angry too!!! But you are handling it great. Yeah for renewed commitment to exercise and eating healthy!

Wow, it amazes me who people will hurt in order to make a few bucks. I'm sorry about your bike. Now learn some karate and kick the person's butt if you ever find them.

:D

Actually speaking of karate/martial arts, I was thinking that might be a fun way to loose some weight and feel better about myself.

I just don't have the time or money to take a class. Maybe I could buy like an at home course.

One reason I would really like to do this is because I have extremely bad heart burn. Some people believe that martial arts and learning to breathe properly can help heart burn. Anyone know anymore about that???

Thanks for listening.

Hmm... Never heard of that... Depending on what causing heartburn, that may help.

I had a consistant heartburn, but it was found out that some kind of bacteria living in my stomack caused that. I took a course of antibiotics, and have not had heartburn ever since.

I would recommend at least starting in marshall arts with a good instructor, even only for a few starting lessons, because they need to teach you proper form. With a tape, you can follow routine, but tape does not have feedback, it cannot correct you if you're not doing something right. Some tapes such as for aerobic kickboxing, you'll be fine doing on your own, because even though they use martial art elements, they are not as concerned with proper form and correct breathing.

Good luck!

Thanks NTL, I think I might start with yoga, since there is a class here on the island that only costs around $15 a week. Ah, I think I would be so much healthier if I things were cheaper, or if I won the lottery! Whichever comes first ;) Eating healthy is expensive!

Sorry about your bike, but don't let that idiot get you down. Martial arts looks really fun and i have seen some dvds about it, more kickboxing but i am sure there are others. I hope you are having a great day!
