For my post workout meal I have a banana and a protein shake. I only have this meal after my weight lifting routine and was wondering if it was necessary to count the calories in this meal considering that I lift pretty hard and my body needs the extra calories. I'm trying to stay on a 2000 calorie diet to lose some extra body fat.

If you are counting calories then it doesn't matter when you take the calories, it is still calories.

Course your BMR will be different with working out so you will need more than if you didn't work out.

But the short answer is yes.
