The exercise is more important than what you eating, I hope you gettng plenty of that. When I started to lose, I gradually changed what I was eating. Stopped eating alot of fried foods, and just ate normally for a few months but I exercised for starters 30 minutes a day three times a week. It comes off kinda fast if you do it that way, "specially if you've never exercised before. Good luck!:)

get an account at a site like and keep track of your calories - it's tough to tell by what you've listed whether they're low or high based on portion sizes.

READ the stickied threades around the forum - you'll find lots of helpful information about what you should be eating, the importance of calories, and exercise programs.

Idraw22 is incorrect. Exercise is NOT more important than diet when it comes to weight loss. Although exercise is beneficial and important, no exercise plan without diet changes will bring about gains, while a proper diet with minimal exercise can bring about weight loss.

As for your meals: It certainly sounds like you are eating healthier. But eating healthier does not necessarily mean you are going to lose weight. Questions for you:

1. the meal replacement shake: how many calories?
2. your 11 am and 2 am meals need more protein.
3. If you are actually following this consistently and not gorging on your portions, youll lose weight. Are you using condiments with your chicken/potato? Like bbq sauce? butter? bacon? sour cream? etc.

heya thanx for answering i will look into the fitday journal. The meal plan for the day i mentioned above :

cheerios 30g 125ml semi skimmed milk = 176 cals

large orange= 65
kiwi= 55

slim fast meal replacement (strawberry) =217 cals

grilled skinless chicken breast 200g= 230

sweetcorn 100g= 120cals

brocolli= 100g = 30cal

potato 250g (aprrox depend on size of spud) 198 cals

= 1091

and after reading around abit on here i think im to low on my calories but i also forgot i do use sauces sometimes salad cream etc not loadz but the calories do mount up i actually have no idea how many calories are in the sauces  as i forgot all about them.so think i need to rethink about using them :)

what would be the best way to add more protein in to my 11am and 2pm meals??

oh yeah and i was just wanted to know is it true if u eat more at breakfast it stops you feeling hungrier of a night time (obviously still keeping within your calorie amount for the day)

Sauces often have HUGE amounts of calories. Especially if it's creamy or mayo lol.

The best way to increase your dietary protein is meat. What do you like best? Chicken? Tuna? Crab? Salmon? Turkey? Ground Beef? Just try and stay away from meats that are high in fat if you can (processed meat, esp. pepperoni, salami, bologna, etc.) Add a portion of any of these (it need not be large) into your 11 am and 2 pm meals.

So you need to learn what you are eating in terms of sauces. Also...what do you drink during the day. People often forget about juice and pop in their calculations.

i mostly eat chicken turkey and fish and i drink mostly water sometimes a juice drink (mixed with water)

is all fish healthy as i eat plaice, trout, cod, haddock,????

any ideas wht i can put on my food thats healthy so its not so plain or dry ???

sauces aren't bad -just work them into your calorie counts...

garlic and lemon juice add a ton of flavor
the spice aisle is definitely your friend in the grocery store -spend some time there..
There are a lot of prepackaged marinades that are pretty good -read labels and watch sodium and I personally avoid anything with HFCS but that's your choice.
Salad dressings can make good marinades as well

Just use your imagination... :) what do you like... what flavors do you like - adapt them for your new lifestyle...

I use hot sauce. Lots. Heh.

Again, there are many healthy marinades and juices that have no calories.

You just have to find your preference. Fish is always great. Never feel bad about eating fish (just try not to overdo it too much...do to mercury concerns).

thanx everyone this has helped i did go to the supermarket and went to the herb and spice section and wow theres loadz to choose from.

does anybody know if there is any truth in the questions i asked above about if you eat more for breakfast then you will feel less hungrier later on of a evening (if still keeping within your calorie amount for the day).

I havent found that to be true but having a decent breakfast does make me less tired throughout the course of the day...

breakfast is the most important meal. if you get breakfast right you'll be set up for eating a bit better for the rest of the day :)

i was the same size as you 5 months ago and now ive lost a quater of my weight...it takes time but leave it a while for your body fat loss to kick in. its not immediate, and if you loose weight too fast it will jus come back on. make positive changes for life not for a few months. the way i live eat and excercise has changed for good since 5 months back...good luck!

Of course, exercise isn't the thing that makes you lose weight entirely. But it is a factor worth including.

You can exercise all you want, but unless you eat well then you wont lose weight. It's the same if you change your diet but don't exercise. Although you will get some results, it will not be optimum. To achieve your best, use exercise and diet together and build yourself into a fit and healthy human being.
