Sport Coping w/ meals while living w/ parents and siblings

Sport Fitness
I'm about to start my new planned diet, the only problem is I'm 17 years old and I am living with my parents still and have three younger siblings. the problem being that my mom isn't ready to broil chicken breast for dinner every night for everyone. I'm thinking of buying one of those mini grill things, that way i could make all my meals without bothering anyone else. has anyone else had any experience with this? any advice?

You're on the right track...Just make it yourself

What are the typical family meals?

yea dude, just make it yourself. I got lucky, and my mom does seperate cooking for me for veggies or baked sweetpotato, and I eat the normal meats the family will because I have trained my mom to cook healthy.

Buy a George Foreman type grill and cook yourself what you want when you want. It's good to develop some cooking skills anyway. I've lived on my own for years, but when I recently went home for a month visit wit my family, this was a big pain in the ass. My sister would complain that I was cooking chicken breasts at 10pm and so on. I feel for you.

yeah =\

i was thinking of getting one of those, is grilling the healthiest way to eat chicken though?

How bad do you want it? Will you give in to convenience?

If I go to family functions I take food with me. I don't even have a piece of cake at birthday parties. They got used to it after a while.

bad, i've been pretty consistent with my workout for the past year, and i've also turned down food at events for the sake of my physique ;)

Surely just having a smaller piece than the norm and only eating it 3-4 times a year at someones birthday won't hurt that much?

Generally, any cooking method that does not add a lot of bad calories should be fine. An example of what not to do to chicken is dip it in batter and deep fry it (basically adding refined grain carbohydrates which then absorb a lot of extra fat, resulting in a huge number of added empty calories).

What are typical family dinner foods? Are they typically things that are batter dipped and deep fried, or otherwise unhealthy? Are the only vegetables potatoes which are either fried or dripping with added fat? Are the meats typically those which are more fat than protein (e.g. most sausages, fatty cuts of beef and pork)? Are the carbohydrates mostly refined grains or added sugars?

I didn't even eat my own 18th birthday party cake...but that was before i started weight lifting and was scared to eat anything that wasn't a fruit .

not at all, my mom cooks good meals for the most part, it's just not what i want to be eating

thanks everyone, i think i'll be getting a foreman grill

Take the initiative. I used to grill a bunch of chicken breasts and keep them in the fridge. Don't rely on Mom to cook it for ya. U da man, you might as well learn now. Grill them, bake them, use a george foreman grill, something. There isn't any reason you should be at someone elses mercy. TAKE CONTROL!!!! Also learn to cook frozen vegetables, make salads etc. Like I said, take control of it yourself. You can succeed. Good luck, Greg

get the small one, the bigger one is a pain in the arse.
