Weight-Loss Continuation of the current WL competition? Anybody interested?

Weight-Loss

Just wondering if anybody would be interested in joining a continued WL challenge, very similar to the one that is running at the moment. Depending on the amount of people interested, it will either be a team challenge or a single player challenge, with mini-challenges posted by the 'biggest losers'. :) I can't really offer much in a way of a reward, but I promise I will make some custom badges that you can stick in your signature if you like, and of course you'll have the reward of losing weight, getting healthier, and doing all of that while having a bit of fun, and getting encouragement from your team members.

If you'd be interested, please just drop a line in this thread, and then we can take it from there. :)

count me in:cheers2:

I would be but more so if its individual instead of groups I have found that its disapointing when team mates just can't seem to be bothered at least if its individual we only have ourselves to blame

Count me in!

I like the idea of a group! I have really enjoyed the support! Maybe reorganize them a bit? I know many people dropped out, so it might be a good idea to reorganize if we are to continue. I don't know - see what everyone else thinks.

If there is enough interest, I am definitely for groups. At the moment, we've got three people - that's not enough for one group, never mind several.

Come on, there must be more people interested! We take newbies as well, we don't bite....much.....:reddevil:

Quercus already mentioned that he would be interested - and maybe transparent & Omega - there are some posts on the Gold thread.

plus there are some quite dedicated new people out there :) I dont think theyhave heard about it - they just go straight to weight loss diaries.

I will only join if there are fully formulated up front rules for drop outs etc if we do teams.

I personally favour the old "no scaling" and it is up to each team to motivate each other and bring each other back to post - if not you have someone scoring 0 every week. It probably sounds cruel and I didnt invent it but it certainly used to force us to chase each other and do everything that we could think of to motivate each other.

Also whether you ever combined teams - or left individuals by themselves.

Whatever is chosen - it needs to be solidly sorted out before the start.

I fully intend to have proper rules set out to deal with things like dropouts etc. before the contest starts. I will post them here about the middle of next week, in the hopes that there will be more sign-ups by then and I'll know whether it is a single person or group contest. :)

And I'll have a sneaky snoop around people's diaries later. Breakfast first - I'm dying for a coffee!!! :svengo:

I'm ok to do individuals - but I do not want any more problems with team rules like we had last week.

San, maybe we should "advertise" it on the weight loss diary thread? Some new people might be interested. But they never come to the challenges thread. by advertising I mean - writing a post in their diary. E.g. Don Keykong, Camila etc.

Mentioning things to all your friends always was a good idea. Also pointing out that these challenges are a lot more than just about getting weight loss - the exercise and mini challenge aspects can be fun and you always get more camaraderie... a chance to make new friends and cement old ones... I always have found challenges to be very motivating.

If people have space in their signature it can be a good way of advertising challenges... You can embed links to the thread there too.

Is it going to be on percent of weight lost again? This is a big issue worth hammering out at the start as it opens the playing field wider so that the biggest people do not get a clear run (I well remember the days when I could drop a stone (14 pounds) a month in a predictable way...

I'm working on putting a small post together that I can drop into people's diaries without being too intrusive, or appear as if I'm spamming.....I always find things like that rather difficult. And I must shamefully admit that I do not follow people's diaries - there is only so much time in a day, and I can't find the time to sit down to read.

As for the weight loss, yes, it will definitely go by percentage. It would be unfair on a lot of people to go by pounds lost - at 350+ lbs it's pretty easy to drop 5 lbs in a week. At 250 or less, that's a hell lot more difficult. So yepp, percentage, to make it fair for everybody.

Sounds good San, I can ask a few people on the weight loss diary section - since I already follow them - so it's no spamming - and can ask them to spread the word :)

Good idea. The more people that spread the word the better.

Back in the old days I used to recommend forthcoming challenges if I was welcoming a new person to the forum in the introductions section. I used to just mention it as a great way of getting some direction and motivation and a brilliant place for meeting people.

You both know that I am really useless at diaries too. I am useless at posting in my own diary - never mind other people's.:svengo:

I may be interested in joining the challenge. I have never done one before and actually only found this forum a few days ago. I just need to know more details. BTW, Omega told me to check one out by you, San.

This is the right thread Camila and Oregongal.

San is currently finding interest while formulating plans. By you posting here - we will know to keep you in the loop.

We tend to get little tasks to do - like a target for exercise and maybe a nutritional or similar goal (like for instance having enough vegetables). Traditionally things like dancing or running about with your kids counts as exercise (lol but watching them in the park doesnt) - so it doesnt all have to be at the gym... We get points and compare scores... It tends to encourage us to act in a more healthy way...

Because the main of the points are based on the hard work that we do to deserve weight loss - you can do well if you work hard despite gaining weight due to things like TOM or medical issues... Of course people tend to do pretty well with their weight loss if they work hard with their exercise and food so often people get much better weight loss than they would otherwise get.

I credit challenges as being a major factor in the success that I had in my big weight loss project a few years back.

Sometimes we have teams and sometimes we act as individuals... San is working out how she wants this game to go...

Count the newbie in..Just what i need to push myself..Thank you.
