I'm going on a trip next weekend, and the only breakfast we'll be having (to save $$ on the trip) is from the continental breakfast at the hotel. There isn't really any other option; we are going on this trip with my in-laws and they are footing the bill. Any advice at all? Aside from the obvious, eat whatever fruit/yogurt/healthy foods there is? I'm afriad there won't be enough decent food to fill up an ant...

Most hotels I've stayed in over the years for their continetal breakfasts will have cereals of some sort, fruit, yogurt, breads w/ various toppings (ie fruit preserves, peanut butter, etc)

If you stay away from the super sized muffins and the artery clogging danish pastry you should be fine.

Stick to the decent stuff, they'll probably have wheat toast, eggs, fruit and ham. Just try and stay away from things like pancakes, pastries, etc. and greasy meats like bacon and sausage.

and if its a buffet, scan the food, pick out what you want thats reasonable, eat that and then LEAVE THE AREA lol so you arent tempted to go back for seconds, thirds, etc...

Continental breakfasts rarely have eggs/pancakes - full breakfast type items.....

Usually, continental brakfasts have a few pieces of fruit, toast, bagels, donuts and the little boxes of sugary cereal. And I doubt they even put the 100% whole wheat toast on the bar; it's probably the brown bread with the word "wheat" on it. I've never seen a continental breakfast with eggs, bacon etc.

you could always pack some stuff to take with you... when I was travelling, i always worked some weird hours and didn't always make it back to the hotel in time for dinner - so a jar of peanut butter and an apple were always around - or some granola bars (Im smarter about granola bars now :)

If you're worried about upsetting your inlaws you could keep a bag of apples or something in your room and have one before you come down to breakfast, just to take the edge off your hunger. Then choose the healthiest cerial they do have and maybe another bit of fruit. That way they get to see you enjoying the breakfast and you dont get too tempted to over do it.
Just a thought...

They usually will have milk, to go with the crapola cereals they provide. So, bring your own bowl and half a bag of good cereal like Kashi in your luggage and use their milk.
