Confused About Eating Right

Question regarding mainting a healthy diet and weight while lowering bfp:

I've always been a relatively skinny, perhaps even scrawny, kid. I got to senior year and I was getting tired of being so small and weak so I decided to hit the gym. I've been working out for about 4 months now and I'm definitely seeing results. Within the past couple of weeks I hit a plateau; however, after reading up and visiting this site, I've been able to push pass that and am quickly gaining muscle mass. I was usually a steady 153, and now am a good 158. I've upped my protein intake to about 1 gram per pound and I've also increased the number of calories I'm taking in (averaging 3000). I'm not a huge cardio guy but am willing to push myself. Anyway, to my question.

Most of the fat weight goes to my stomach, thus covering my abs, there isn't a lot, but it does the job. It might just be the perfectionist in me, but there's just something about a nice set of abs that really appeals to me. So I would like to be able to decrease this fat (I'm guessing by lowering my body fat percentage) while mainting my muscle mass (I know I'll have to probably loose a little). So any suggestions lifting, dieting, and cardio wise would be greatly appretiated. I'm wondering if perhaps my calorie intake and fat intake is too high and cardio too low (I average about 90 grams of fat per day. And my cardio is basically x-country running for about 15 3 times a week.)

Sorry if this question is over-asked, it's just that a lot of the information out there doesn't really seem to pertain to my specific needs.

well, u have made the answer pretty simple as u seem to understand the basics of bf%, protein and the loss of muscle while doing cardio ... so, i will assume u know what HIIT is (if not, search the forum) ... it's ur best bet at lowering ur body fat to show those abs ... u should probably increase ur cardio a bit, too

Thanks. After posting this I looked into it a little more and figured that's probably what I should do (HIIT). I also was wondering if I'm intaking too many carbs (average 420 grams) and if so should I go for more protein or fat (protein average is 157). Thanks.

if u don't have a high bf% and u don't seem to be gaining any fat, then i wouldn't worry too much about it. However, if that were my diet, i would try to cut down the carbs ... i try to have my diet more like 30% P, 15% F, 55% C ... and, if i ever feel i need more food, i always go for protein first.
