Weight-Loss

I've been reading some of the posts on this forum and I'm confused.

I've read that if you eat too less calories, you'll lose weight but then it stops, and you cant really eat any more less calories, so you won't lose any more weight. Is that right?

Until recently, I used to eat around 2000ish calories. I never counted at the time, but I did a calculation of what I'd eat on a normal day.

For the past month or so I've been eating 1150 calories or less. I went from 165lbs to 157 lbs, so I changed the calorie intake again, to 1070. That amount is very difficult for me and I get frustrated, hungry and guilty if I eat more.

I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me how many calories I should eat to stay the same weight as I am now, and how many to eat if I want to lose 1lb a week.

My weight is 157 lbs and my height is 5 foot 5 inches. Also, I'm 17 if that makes any difference?

Thank you very much in advance. :)

Hi Miracle,
Welcome to the WLF :)

I've heard that 15 calories per pound of body weight is about maintenance for most people.

So a reduction to 10-12 calories per pound of body weight would be a healthy weight loss.

That would put your caloric range at 1570-1884.

Are you getting much exercise in?
Remember, you need a large portion of these calories just to do basic bodily functions - go easy on yourself and realize the weight WILL come off.

^ 1570-1884!? :O That seems like a hell of a lot, compared to what I've been eating. I feel like if I ate that much, I wouldn't lose anything! I'd gain!

I walk around college during the week, and my boyfriend and I usually do something that includes walking an hour or two.

I'd say not much, though. I haven't had the energy recently.

So, if I eat around 1500 calories, and exercise more often, it'd be better than what I'm doing now? Which is eating 1070ish calories and just walking a bit.

I would say that would be MUCH healthier!

I had lowered my calories to too low and went through a proces of increasing them until I started gaining weight in order to find my maintenance level.

My maintenance level had me gaining weight at 12 calories per body pound.

If you reduce your calories too low - you have now wiggle room for when you get stuck at a plateau.

Plus you'll have more energy for doing things (fun stuff :) ), and you'll feel better. When I don't eat enough in just one day, I get headaches, dizziness, etc. I can't imagine not eating enough that many days in a row!

Good for you for asking about it; I hope you can find the right level for youself. :)

^ I upped my calories to around 1500 and feel better almost instantly :D

Thanks for the advice! xxx
